Fancy basics
When it comes to shopping for new clothes, one of my favorite things is finding items that serve as a basic but that would take any look up another notch because of interesting or "fancy" details. I love having a closet filled with mostly items like this because they can still easily be mixed-and-matched but they aren't boring. This outfit could easily be recreated with simpler items: a plain zip-up black sweatshirt, a white muscle tank, and regular ballet flats. I took it up three notches with the asymmetrical sweatshirt, lace tank top, and lace-up flats. (Side note: I just realized that the word "lace" describes two of the items that don't look very similar, and then I was reminded how words are cool.)
The other element I love about this outfit is the mix of more girly elements (lace tank, burgundy pants) with more edgy elements (asymmetrical sweatshirt, pointed metallic flats). I previously wore these pants and flats together a couple of times in my fall style sudoku, and I couldn't help but repeat the look again—they work so well together!
