Storm warning
A couple of weekends ago, I attended my friend's graduation party in a park...on a day with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. (I mean, why wouldn't there be thunderstorms during an atmospheric scientist's graduation? It's meant to be.) It was supposed to be a nice day, so had there not been a good chance of storms, I probably would have worn a dress or skirt. Instead, I thought about the fact that any storm would likely bring with it gusty winds and cooler temperatures during and after passing by. I knew pants would be the right choice so I didn't flash anyone or freeze.
I decided to pull out my old pair of cotton-linen pants for the occasion. They're lightweight for warm temperatures yet keep me covered up in case of a breeze. The fit is comfortable and easy. I thought the dusty blue color played nicely with the grey striped tee (and the color combination kind of reminded me of a thunderstorm itself, ha!). I picked the sandals to go with the tee and because they can handle getting a little wet just in case it rained.
We left the party before there were any direct hits, but during the party, all hands were on deck holding down the food as a nearly severe thunderstorm meandered past us and gave us some very gusty winds. Luckily we were under a shelter and only suffered a minor sand-in-eyes situation. ;) What do you wear when the forecast calls for thunderstorms?
PSA: You should be indoors or at least away from trees/other tall objects when lightning is nearby! Don't be a lightning fatality statistic!
