Everlane reviews: Linen tees, cotton poplin skirt, box-cut tee dress
I placed a couple of Everlane orders recently, so I figured it was time for a new review post! Unfor-tunately, the linen tees are mostly sold out now, but if they ever restock (or get any returns), keep this post in mind. (There are other items still available in their full linen collection.) I'm also reviewing the cotton poplin pleated skirt I bought last year and the recently-released cotton box-cut tee dress (though they sent me the wrong color). For sizing reference, I am typically a size XS/0/25 at J.Crew, Madewell, LOFT, Anthropologie, Gap, and Banana Republic. I wear a size 4-6 in H&M and its sister stores (depending on the item). For stores that use juniors sizing, such as Forever 21 and ModCloth, I am usually a size small. My Uniqlo size is either XS or small (again, depending on the item). Everlane includes garment measurements for each item, which I find incredibly helpful when it comes to determining the right size to buy. You can find all of my previous Everlane reviews at the end of the post and browse all of my clothing reviews here.
The Linen Box-Cut Tee (navy stripe, size XS)
You know me... I can't resist a good navy stripe. ;) I love the fit of my cotton box-cut tee so much that I had to try their linen version! It did not disappoint. It fits slightly oversized in my typical XS (I would say slightly looser/longer than the cotton box-cut tee, but this one may shrink a bit when washed). It is very slightly sheer (though not as sheer as the heather grey tee). The neckline tends to poke outward a bit (kind of like my marled sweatshirt) but it's not a deal breaker. I found the fabric to be slightly itchier than the scoopneck tee, so just be aware of that. It's not enough to irritate me.
How I wore it: with the cotton poplin pleated skirt, with white shorts
The Linen Scoopneck Tee (heather grey, size XS)
A few years ago, I picked up a couple of Madewell's linen scoopneck tees, but I don't wear them very often because the neckline comes down a bit low and I'm always adjusting it (I'm going to be listing them on Poshmark soon hopefully). When I saw that Everlane made their own scoopneck tee, I scooped it up (pun intended har har)! I prefer the fit of this tee much better. It does fit a tad more slim than I was expecting it to considering how much looser the box-cut tee is, but I'd say it's comparable to the fit of the regular v-neck tees. It drapes really nicely, and I love the length for tucking. I really hope it doesn't shrink in the wash! I also don't find it to be too sheer though it seems to be slightly thinner than the Madewell version. Nude-to-me undergarments work great! I found the material of this tee to be softer/silkier than the box-cut tee.
How I wore it: with a striped hat and denim shorts, with a denim skirt
The Cotton Poplin Pleated Skirt (navy, size 0)
I purchased this skirt almost a year ago after wishing that I had a navy mini skirt to play around with. I ordered my usual size 0 and it fits TTS for me. I was originally worried that this skirt would be longer than I prefer, but I love the length! It might run a bit short on taller ladies. The fabric is structured but not stiff, though it does tend to crease with wear. I love the hidden pockets in front; they're roomy but don't add any bulk. The skirt does kind of poof out like a bell. The waistband is comfortable and not at all restricting. Overall it's a great piece that feels high quality.
How I wore it: with the linen box-cut tee, over a plaid dress, with a Peter Pan collar, with navy stripes
The Cotton Box-Cut Tee Dress (washed black/bone rugby stripe, size S)
I ordered this dress when it was released a couple of weeks ago, but I ordered it in the washed black/ bone mini stripes (this is the tee version). Instead, I received the rugby stripes... :( I'm really bummed because I love the fit (and really hate the wide stripes, lol). I noticed on the packing slip that the size of the stripe wasn't indicated, so I could see how the mix-up happened. Neither this color nor the one I ordered is on the site anymore, so I'm not sure what that means (maybe they took them down until the issue was resolved?), but I'm starting to feel like I may never get the one I ordered.
Anyway, I wanted to try the dress on to see if I had ordered the right size just in case my original dress reappears. After studying their garment measurements, I decided to go with a size small instead of XS to allow for more room in the hips/butt (especially in case it shrinks a little bit in the wash). That made it slightly more roomy on top, but I actually love the way it fits. It nips in a little bit at the waist rather than looking like a sack. The only thing I would change is the too-wide/dropped shoulders (not a fan when the garment is striped). Since I'm 5'4", it does come a bit lower on my legs than on the models' legs, but I like that it still hits above the knee so I don't feel like I'm being swallowed.
How I wore the washed black/bone striped mini stripes: with a belt bag, with a straw tote
