If you’ve been reading for a while, you probably noticed that I don’t have any pieces in my closet that are an animal print (I don’t think my kitty flats count, haha). That is—until now! Snakeskin is one of those trends that I was so-so about, even during Taylor Swift’s reputation era, which featured a lot of snakes, especially on tour (Karyn is what she named the giant blow-up snake on her main stage). It really is too bad that snakeskin didn’t blow up into a huge trend until after her tour ended.

2020 marks my sixth year partnering with Earth to style a couple of pairs of shoes from their new collection! I went out of the box this time and tried two new-to-me trends in one shoe: snakeskin and mules. And I must admit that I’m a fan! It definitely helps that the colors in this particular print lean grey or taupe (the color is called taupe multi), so they work with many different colors in my closet. I’ve found myself wearing them the most with greys, blacks, and whites. This print is available in the Uptown Uma (pictured here), the Zen Groove slip-on sneaker, and the Murano Haze heeled sandal.

The Uptown Uma is available in two other colorways besides the taupe multi: smooth black and a gorgeous chocolate brown appropriately named ciocco. As far as actually wearing the mules, it took a couple of wears for them to feel comfortable, especially along the top of my foot. I have high arches, so if shoes are going to rub, they typically rub on the tops of my feet. Now that the leather has softened, I don’t have any issues with them rubbing. Even though I need to be a little extra cautious so they don’t fly off my feet, they’re comfortable for everyday walking around the office. The sole features Earth’s signature Powerpath footbed design, which provides a little extra arch support! I’m wearing my usual 7.

I’m looking forward to wearing these mules throughout spring and summer (and into fall!). I really like how they look paired with cropped pants/jeans like in this outfit here—showing a little bit of extra skin makes them appear not so heavy on the feet. I’m the person that usually reaches for ballet flats over loafers if I’m wearing skinny jeans that reach the ankles because I like having that little bit of extra skin showing for contrast, and I get that effect with an outfit like this one where the inseam is raised just a bit. I never would have thought about little details like that before reading blogs and starting a blog myself! I wonder if I’ll like them with skirts and dresses, too. Time to play with my closet. ☺️

Tell me—are you into mules, too? What about the snakeskin trend? There have been SO many good snakeskin-print releases from my favorite brands in recent months!
