What to wear to a fall wedding
BP. crystal statement earrings / Ellen Tracy keyhole front scuba fit & flare dress / Oliveve 'Queenie' clutch / Bella Vita 'Nettie' block heel pump / J.Crew double-cloth 'Lady Day' coat with Thinsulate
As mentioned in my last budget post, I'm planning to attend a wedding in the midwest next month. I won't lie, deciding what to wear is completely overwhelming me! Not only is the wedding in November... it's in the midwest. So, it could be a really nice, unseasonably warm fall day, or it could be a blizzard. You just don't know what you're going to get. Luckily, the festivities will be indoors, so as long as I have a good coat and sensible shoes I should be good for whatever weather comes my way.
I've looked through my closet (Stylebook makes it easy to glance at everything I own), and nothing that I own seems like it would work for the occasion. I don't dress "fancy" on a regular basis, nor have I attended an event like this in the recent past and already own a go-to outfit. If things get really desperate, though, would my dark floral silk skirt work? I'm just not sure what kind of top to pair with it! Still, I'm hoping I come across the perfect dress...
My dilemma is that I really want to buy a dress and a pair of shoes that I'll wear for more than just this occasion. I don't know how realistic that is, though, sinceβagainβI don't attend events like these very often, haha! Especially events like these in the fall and winter. And I'm not sure that I want to buy something that is too casual, you know? I guess we'll see what I end up with.
I put together what I would consider to be my "dream" wedding guest outfit above. Does it work? Did I get anything totally wrong? Is it weird to wear black to a wedding? (Help me!)
There are also a bunch of other (what I would consider) fall/winter wedding guest options in the widgets below at varying price points. Some of the options are from Shopbop, which is currently in the midst of their big fall sale! Save 25% off your order if you spend less than $500, or save 30% off your order if it totals at least $500! Just use code MAINEVENT16 at checkout. The sale runs through tomorrow (10/14) at 11:59 pm PT. There are a few brand exclusions, unfortunately, including my love Kate Spade. It's definitely worth checking out their wedding guest dress selection (of course, save the white dresses for the bride herself!), their pump selection, their flat selection (in case you need to change out of heels for the reception, which I'm hoping to avoid), and their clutch selection if you're shopping for an event like this yourself. As always, they offer free 3-day shipping (or sign in with your Amazon Prime account to get 2-day shipping) and free returns within 15 days. :)
