Worst Sartorial Purchases of 2016
I have a love/hate relationship with these posts that look back at my best and worst purchases. On one hand, I love picking out my favorites and think I make better purchasing decisions every year, and on the other hand, I hate reflecting on my bad purchases! It makes me feel as though I'm airing my dirty laundry for all of you to see. ;) But where would I be if I didn't hold myself accountable and really, seriously think about where I went wrong? That said, most of my worst purchases were simply not worn as much as I thought they would be. Maybe they weren't necessarily that bad, but they weren't the wardrobe staples I thought they would be. I just wouldn't buy them again. Without further ado...
Banana Republic Embellished Bomber Jacket {purchased February 2016}
Original posts: left / right
I love bomber jackets, and I loved the idea of this bomber jacket, but I just didn't love it as much as I thought I would. I only wore it the two times above. I love the heather grey, but the lack of pockets was a pretty big bummer. I also didn't love the embellishments that much. Those coupled with the fabric led to quite a bit of snagging under the arms when I moved. They were a great idea in theory but not so much in execution. I'm on the hunt for a regular heather grey, non-embellished replacement.
Everlane Cotton V Tee {purchased February 2016}
Original post here
This purchase wasn't that bad since a black tee is a great basic, but I only wore it once (above) since I got it. I realized that I don't wear regular tees as much as I thought I did, but I still kind of want to buy a navy tee to see if that one would get more wear. That may be a bad idea, though, haha. I want to be a jeans-and-tee type of gal but I really gravitate towards more interesting tops.
ASOS Wrap Maxi Skirt {purchased June 2016}
Original posts: left / right
I definitely expected to like and wear this skirt more than I do/did. It's thin and shows any lump or bump under the fabric, and it also shrank after I washed it. Before it was washed (left photo above), the length was perfect. Is there anything more annoying than that? I haven't had the best quality experiences with ASOS so I don't see myself buying more from them in the future.
COS Silk Panel Stripe Jumper {purchased June 2016}
Original post here
I purchased this top in Vienna because I love COS and there's no store near me. I fell in love with the look of it, and it fit well when I tried it on. I only wore it once so far, though, and I was expecting to get more wear out of it. The thing I didn't realize in the dressing room was that the top bunches around my bust when I move around during the day and it's annoying to constantly be fixing it. I'm going to try wearing a different bra next time to see if that helps it any. This top still makes me happy when I look at it, so I was hesitant to include it here (especially since there are a few other items that I only wore once but didn't include here because I anticipate wearing them more this year).
Express 'Portofino' Shirt {purchased December 2015}
LOFT Flare Crop Jeans {purchased November 2016}
I wouldn't normally include items from 2015, but this shirt was added at the end of the year so I gave it a fair shot. Even though I purchased the shirt over a year ago, I still have yet to wear it. I think it's because every time I try to put it on, it's extremely staticky. I should probably try washing it, but that requires removing the tag and I'm so weird about not removing the tag until I wear it. It's also not warm, and in the colder months, I rarely wear shirts like this because of that. I'm all about the flannel shirts and sweaters. So basically it is reserved for the transitional spring and fall seasons. Hopefully I pull it out at some point this year or it'll probably be listed on Poshmark. I had such high hopes that it would become a staple.
The jeans were purchased only a couple of months ago, but I still haven't gotten to wear them. However, I think it was mostly due to weather. Winter came early this year. I still have reservations about how much I'll actually wear them, though, so I guess we'll see as the year goes on...!
