The pattern of summer
Even though it's meteorological summer as of yesterday and I'm wearing a stereotypical summer pattern, I categorized this outfit as a spring outfit. We've still got a bit of a weather rollercoaster ride before it's completely summer...at which point I'll switch over to the summer outfit category. (It was well into the 90s a couple of days ago, but a more spring-like mid-70s with showers yesterday.)
I don't think anyone can deny that gingham is the pattern of summer, though, right? For me, gingham conjures up memories of picnics in the park and plastic tablecloths secured to campground tables. It's preppy, it's classic, and it's timeless. I have two shirts in the iconic pattern (navy shown here, pink last worn here) and have definitely considered adding more gingham in different shapes, styles, and colors (I think black is a great option: neutral but still interesting). If you're in the market for gingham, I've included some current favorites in the widget below!
For a balmy mid-80° day, I paired my navy gingham shirt with green shorts and added cognac accessories for an earthy feel. The half-tucked shirt keeps it casual and allows the belt to make an appearance. I wouldn't normally opt to wear long sleeves on such a warm day, but I spent the afternoon at a movie with my mom and aunt and didn't want to freeze in the theater (luckily, they didn't have the AC blasting just yet).
