May Style Sudoku, At Home Edition
I’m back for my second style sudoku, at home edition! Today marks the start of my 9th week working from home, which is crazy to think about. It’s definitely feeling more “normal” now…and I am definitely not missing my commute! (Not looking forward to doing that again when it’s time to go back to the office, haha.) Even though my state is no longer under a stay-home order, we are still encouraged to stay home as much as possible.
I put together my first at-home/work-from-home style sudoku last month (here’s the full recap), and it was a good way for me to get back into the swing of putting together outfits. Since I plan to do a style sudoku in every month that I’m working from home, and I’m still working from home this month, I put together another version for May! A style sudoku is a way of arranging 16 items to make 14+ outfits, and it’s my favorite style challenge because it’s not as restrictive as some of the more popular challenges such as the 10x10 and I love sudoku puzzles in general.
If you’re new to this style challenge, check out my style sudokus from 2019 (January, April, July, and October) for other examples (featuring “real” clothes/outfits) and more details.
The first thing you probably noticed about this version is COLOR! My April version was very neutral—lots of grey, black, and white—and while I didn’t mind the neutral palette, it definitely didn’t make for super exciting outfits. I wanted to inject some fun into the May version, so I went with a color palette of navy, olive/surplus green, and black with accent colors of pink, camel, burgundy, gold, and ivory/white. Three of the items are striped, which was not intentional, but I don’t mind! I also only repeated one item from April; can you tell which item? Hint: My wide leg pants! I figured I won’t be wearing them as much once I’m back in the office so I better wear them as much as I can now.
The main difference between my at-home style sudokus and my regular sudokus is the lack of shoes; I don’t wear my shoes if I’m just hanging around the house. It’s challenging but not impossible to fill out a sudoku without shoes. Like I did for April, I leaned on third pieces (cardigans), my trusty baseball caps (including a new addition!), and jewelry to fill in the spaces reserved for accessories and shoes in a regular style sudoku.
As I do for all sudokus, I’ll be breaking down what I wear into three different blog posts over the next two weeks and writing about how the outfit worked for me. Like the last sudoku, this sudoku is not terribly exciting as far as items go, but I tried to liven it up with the color palette this time! Might as well have some fun while I’m fortunate to be stuck at home. 🙂
Below the sudoku, you can find the details of all 16 items. I’ll be sharing a daily photo of my outfit over on Instagram stories (check out my “Style Sudoku” highlight) and then posting them here after a few days have passed.
