Reading Lately #3
It’s my first Reading Lately of 2021! I just barely squeezed in three more books by the end of the month. Having a set series every quarter definitely helps to keep me on track! At some point, I’d love to share MORE than three books in each Reading Lately post; three is just my self-imposed minimum. I’m never going to get through my growing to-read list if I keep only reading three books every quarter! Korri suggested cutting out one blog post a week so I can read more and I looked at him like he had two heads. Haha! I do wish I had more time for both reading AND blogging.

For ease, and especially for my fellow Kindle readers, all of the links below go to Amazon. If you are able, please support your local bookstores right now (and always)! Bookshop.org donates a percentage of sales to local bookstores, and if you’re local to me, check out Rediscovered Books—I buy physical books there (via pickup!). There are also a number of Black-owned bookstores that need support. Find one near you in this list of over 50 Black-owned bookstores arranged by state (all have online stores and a couple are online only).
RECENTLY READ
Slashed: The Ultimate Social Media & Influencer Marketing Guide by Unsah Malik: If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the world of social media marketing and how to make it work for you/your business, this is your guide. It’s written by Unsah Malik, an expert in the field (she’s been doing it for over 10 years!). I started following her Instagram, which is full of useful nuggets of information, and immediately purchased this guide when it was released. It’s currently available for 55 British pounds (approximately $70 USD) and could very well be a college-level textbook—that price is a steal! I have absolutely no background in marketing whatsoever, so this was like a crash course for me. It’ll definitely be a guide I reread! If you’re interested in purchasing, here’s my referral link!
I Will Teach You To Be Rich by Ramit Sethi: Read this book if you’re unhappy with your current financial situation and want to get things on track OR if you want to tweak some things so you can live your best Rich Life and aren’t sure where to start. Seriously! It’s full of practical and truly useful financial advice (with real suggestions and tips to live your Rich Life). I wish I had read this book ten years ago; I gave a copy to each of my three brothers this past Christmas. I plan to incorporate some money content on the blog using this book as my inspiration!
Secrets of the Greatest Snow on Earth by Dr. Jim Steenburgh: I’ve gifted this book to both Korri and my dad over the past few years and still had yet to read it myself! Written by one of my grad school professors (and one of my favorites—he is brilliant at explaining complicated atmospheric processes in terms that anyone can understand), this book details the weather conditions that allow for Utah to have the Greatest Snow on Earth (that’s what they call it!). He also includes details about other popular ski areas around the world, the history of Utah skiing, sad avalanche stories that will make you want to avoid the backcountry at all costs (if you’re like me, ha), and a discussion on how climate change might change the skiing industry. This book is filled with interesting images and figures, and the text isn’t dense. I’m biased because of my background but I think it’s great read for any weather/snow/skiing enthusiast!
CURRENTLY READING
Becoming by Michelle Obama (Kindle): This is the longest book I’ve read in quite a while! I’m about a third of the way through and loving it so far. Embarrassingly, I didn’t know too much about our former First Lady prior to reading this book, but I’m so in awe of her and her accomplishments! She’s an inspiration. And I love the bits about Barack, too.
So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo: Oluo recently released a new book titled Mediocre: The Dangerous Legacy of White Male America that I cannot wait to read, but before I read that I wanted to read SYWTTAR! (Trying to read what I already own first—ha!) This anti-racism book came highly recommended by everyone. I just started it but I already know it’s definitely worth your time if you haven’t read it.
TO BE READ
These are all the books I have in my possession and plan to read! (Some of these books are technically Korri’s but they live on the shared bookshelves so that basically means they’re mine, too, right?!) I’ve purchased a few more books since my last Reading Lately post, oops.
