Zero-Waste Fashion by Amour Vert
Putting zero-waste in the same sentence as fashion is basically an oxymoron. Fashion is one of the most polluting industries in the world, made even worse by the rise of fast fashion over the past couple of decades. Not only is the industry itself a major polluter, people are buying more clothes and keeping the clothes for a shorter length of time. I track my own buying (and selling) habits and noticed that I tend to hold onto items for about 2-5 years before passing them on, and this varies based on whether something still fits, is still my style, and still fills a wardrobe gap.
I 100% know that I am not the Golden Child of slow fashion or sustainable living in general. I do what I can when it comes to lowering my waste. I buy things with the intention of holding onto them for as long as possible. (I hate throwing things away…it’s why I’m such a pack rat. I always think about things just sitting in a landfill and figure it’s better to have them just sit in my house.) I’m also not a closet minimalist by any means. I love having a wide variety of items to choose from in a variety of different styles so I can choose who I want to be on any given day.
When one of my favorite slow(er) fashion brands, Amour Vert, released their zero-waste collection, I was immediately intrigued. You may have noticed that I’m a BIG fan of the brand—they were one of the first brands with responsibly-made products I splurged on as a grad student and I’m still an avid shopper and supporter to this day. (This post isn’t sponsored but I wouldn’t be mad if it was. LOL!)
Zero-waste fashion by Amour Vert
Amour Vert’s garments are already made out of some of the most eco-friendly materials you can wear, and many of their garments are made here in the U.S. They’ve upper their game and started offering zero-waste styles that are assembled in a way that no fabric waste is left behind. Amour Vert also offers a variety of zero-waste styles that are made from upcycled fabrics to prevent them from ending up in the landfill. How cool is that! I wish more retailers were thoughtful with their fabric waste. (Of course, there’s still a lot more that needs to be done systemically to make the fashion industry less wasteful and polluting…but this is a step in a positive direction!)
Here are a few of my favorite zero-waste styles available at Amour Vert:
Cybelle Blouse | $128 | Featured here! Runs TTS but size up for broad shoulders.
Jameela Upcycled Dress | $228 | Print almost exactly matches the Cybelle Blouse.
Zuri Cupro Blouse | $128 | If you love ruffles… I’m a fan of this!
Rowan Zero-Waste Pant | $59 (on sale; was $118) | Lounge pants!
Calla Upcycled Blouse | $148 | The same style I own and love in upcycled polyester.
I styled my new zero-waste blouse from Amour Vert with my newest pair of jeans (still trying to add a couple of new pairs since the majority of my jeans do not currently fit). I dislike not knowing my size anymore and having to order multiple sizes and return the ones that don’t fit. I just really hope my returns don’t end up in the landfill. Ugh.
Since the only reason I’d be wearing jeans in the absolutely dreadful summer heat we’ve been enduring is for the office, I grabbed my medium Transport tote that hasn’t been featured on the blog in quite some time due to many months of WFH! It’s one of my two trusty work bags and I carry it every day to the office. We’re going on 4 years together! 🥰
