Linen Blazer + Paperbag Shorts
This outfit may end up going down as one of my favorites of summer 2021! It’s one I would totally wear for work if not for the fact that I’m not totally comfortable wearing shorts this short to work (or shorts at all, really…I typically reach for knee-length and longer skirts).
That said, this is totally an outfit I would’ve worn in grad school. I actually wore a very similar outfit featuring a blazer and denim shorts way back in my early blogging days! Last year, I paired mid-rise knit shorts with a blazer for a Zoom presentation while I was working from home. I love wearing a blazer with shorts because it’s an unexpected combination that makes you look way cooler than you are…if you’re uncool like me LOL.
How to style a linen blazer and paperbag shorts
It’s not that often that I wear an outfit comprised entirely of newbies to my wardrobe, but this is one of those outfits! I recently purchased the linen Larsen blazer and drawstring pull-on paperbag shorts from Madewell and just knew they would go well together. My Joline Reverie striped tee from Amour Vert paired perfectly with the shorts, and the creamy day crossover sandals from Everlane tied everything together. I love it all!
For this casual summer outfit, I started with the base: tan striped tee + beige paperbag shorts. With paperbag shorts, I find that longer tops that fit slimly work best. The colors, patterns, and texture keep it just interesting enough to not be boring, and I tossed on the olive linen blazer for the additional color and texture. Linen is my go-to fabric in the heat, but I only wear this out on the somewhat cooler summer days; it’s a great layer for the chilly office, though! And when all else fails: go with neutral Earth tones. You can’t go wrong!
In the two Madewell items, I’m wearing a size small, but I wish I had ordered the shorts in a size XS because I swim in them just a little bit. I’m more of a small in bottoms these days so I was worried about the size XS feeling too tight. I purchased them on final sale so these will do, and I really can’t complain about them because they’re so comfortable! The blazer fits my broad shoulders well in size small. I’m wearing size XS in the tee, and it’s slightly oversized and long on me. I went up a half size in the sandals but I think my true size would’ve worked just as well.
