8 Podcast Recommendations for 30-somethings
Now this is a post I didn’t see myself writing. Not because I don’t like podcasts… well, actually… I only started listening to podcasts last year! I didn’t think I was a podcast lady. It’s hard for me to focus on listening to something at the same time as doing other things, unless it’s music. This is why I don’t listen to audio books; every once in a while, I have to rewind a couple of minutes of the podcast if I’m too focused on something else, and I think that would happen often if it was a book instead.
But, I do enough sort of “mindless” stuff at work that I started listening to podcasts. And yes, I do still have to rewind it every once in a while, but it’s been fine for the most part. I’ve really enjoyed the few podcasts I have listened to so far, so here are 8 podcasts I recommend on a variety of different topics: from content creation/blogging, to personal finance, to gymnastics (of course), and finally, lifestyle and other miscellaneous topics a 30-something like me would find interesting! (And if you’re not a 30-something, I still think you’d find all of these interesting—you should DEFINITELY listen to #3 if you haven’t yet!)
Let me know if you’ve listened to any of these and what your favorite podcasts are in the comments!
8 Podcasts I Recommend for 30-somethings
on content creation/blogging, personal finance, gymnastics, lifestyle, and more!
1. THRIVE BLOGGER PODCAST by Breanna Pair
If you’re a fellow content creator/blogger, check out the Thrive Blogger Podcast! They release a new episode every week with a special guest and chat all things blogging with lots of actionable tips and tricks. I’ve learned so much from the show and have even invested in one of their programs (the Profitable Blogger Society) after attending a virtual conference! There are multiple podcast episodes I’ve listened to more than once and will listen to again. There’s over 100 episodes to keep you entertained (and learning)!
2. THE BLOGGER BRUNCH PODCAST by Rhonda Jenkins
I went searching for other blogging podcasts while Thrive was on a break this summer and found The Blogger Brunch Podcast. Rhonda shares short (usually 20 minutes or less) episodes about one specific topic related to blogging. I love that she’s also a microinfluencer like me! (Or, was…she’s killing it now!) I really enjoy her bite-size episodes and actionable tips and advice.
3. FINANCIAL FEMINIST by Tori Dunlap
Tori Dunlap is the sassy late-20-something behind Her First 100k, a blog dedicated to helping women make their first $100k after she saved $100k by age 25. Financial Feminist features short episodes where Tori discusses important and relevant topics to better your financial situation (i.e. investing, credit cards, etc.) and longer episodes where she chats with guests about the BIG and not often talked about money topics, like predatory MLMs, the wealth gap and how POC/WOC are affected, payday loan companies, etc. Y’all, I ATE season 1 up in two days. Can’t wait for season 2!
4. I WILL TEACH YOU TO BE RICH by Ramit Sethi
You all may know by now that I’m a fan of Ramit’s. I read his book by the same name and shared my current Conscious Spending Plan a few months ago (which might need to be updated now!). This month, he launched a podcast! I’ve devoured every episode so far. I love that it’s not your typical “how-to” personal finance podcast; he interviews real couples with real money problems and has these discussions about their problems that are far more common than you might think but it’s not something people talk openly about with others. I love it, and it gets me thinking a lot about my own issues surrounding money.
5. HALF IN, HALF OUT by Blake and Kino
As your resident college gymnastics superfan, you shouldn’t be surprised that I have been listening to a gymnastics podcast! Half In, Half Out is the only LGBTQIA+ gymnastics podcast. Blake and Kino share meet previews and meet recaps, which I love listening to as a fan because they might mention something I missed or they might reinforce a thought I had about what happened during the meet. They also talk a lot about what happens on the “gymternet” which might be confusing to those of you not a part of it (I consider myself a part of it and still miss 90% of the drama LOL). They also chat with gymnasts, including the openly out LGBTQIA+ gymnasts from around the country. Listening to the interviews makes me want to hug them and cheer for them even more than I already do!
6. BAD ON PAPER by Becca Freeman and Olivia Muenter
I follow Grace’s blog, The Stripe, and have started listening to Bad on Paper more frequently! Becca and Grace are two real life friends that chat about everything they love, things that are thought-provoking, book recommendations, career shifts, interviews with others, and more. It’s a fun mish-mash of general lifestyle topics. Of course, I love any episode that touches on the business side of blogging since Grace is so successful with her blog. UPDATE: Olivia Muenter is the new co-host with Becca after Grace Atwood stepped back. I’m loving her banter with Becca!
7. A BEAUTIFUL MESS by Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman
I’ve follow the A Beautiful Mess blog for longer than I’ve been blogging myself, so I’ve loved having a podcast to listen to! Sisters Elsie and Emma expand on topics they blog about, be it DIY/home, parenthood, and general lifestyle. My favorite episodes are the ones about the deeper topics; each sister dedicated an episode to their Evangelical upbringing and how it shaped them, which was so interesting and moving as someone that grew up Catholic. I also love when they do reader Q&A posts and blogging-related episodes! (Can you tell I eat up anything about blogging?! Haha!)
8. THE DREAM by Jane Marie
I may have listed The Dream podcast last, but it is DEFINITELY not least. This is the first podcast I listened to all of the way through! Season 1 is all about the truth behind shady MLMs/pyramid schemes, and season 2 is about the questionable wellness industry. I heard season 2 was not as good as season 1, but I ended up listening to both and found them fascinating, disturbing, and very informative. I recommend this podcast to everyone!
