As I write this post, it’s a crisp mid-60s outside with an intermittent breeze and puffy dark clouds teasing me with the potential of rain. Is it too soon to declare that fall it here??? Asking for me, your friend. Haha. It’s fitting weather for sharing my first fall outfit of the year!

Last weekend, I visited the Old Idaho Penitentiary for the 13 Stories Film Competition because my family (dad, step mom, and one brother) and Korri acted in one of the films. It was my first time at the Old Pen in years, and I had forgotten how cool yet creepy it is. There’s so much (dark) history here, and we learned about some of the inmates in the films that were shown. It was the most perfect September evening to pull out my newest sartorial obsession: the Jordan Dress in Jersey by Two Days Off! It arrived the day of the show, and I immediately put it on and did not take it off.

Spooky Season Events at the Old Idaho Penitentiary

The Old Idaho Penitentiary is a historical prison located in east Boise near the foothills that operated from 1872-1973. Today, the site is maintained by the Idaho State Historical Society and offers guided tours and other events. They also have records of all of the inmates, and you can learn about any of them. The 13 Stories films highlighted the lives of 13 of the inmates; their crimes ranged from premeditated murder to…being gay. And being Black. I was heartbroken and cried multiple times. There is still so much wrong with the prison industrial complex.

Two Days Off Jordan Dress in Jersey Review

For the 13 Stories event at the Old Pen, I knew I wanted to dress up…and I wanted to wear black. I was originally planning to wear black jeans and some sort of top until my new dress showed up in the mail! It was absolutely PERFECT for the occasion, and it was a beautiful night to wear it. I added the leather jacket because I knew it would be chilly after the film screening ended, and the cognac belt bag and boots warmed up the black.

I’m wearing the Jordan Dress in Jersey by Two Days Off, one of my favorite small Black-owned clothing brands that I first introduced to you last year! The brand was founded by Gina, a former climate scientist, which you know I love as an atmospheric scientist! My first purchase was the Suki top, a sleeveless linen shell top, in a lovely clay color.

I purchased the Jordan Dress in Jersey during the Labor Day sale; I’ve been thinking about this dress for months and it’s even better than I was anticipating! The size XS was sold out in black, so I ended up going with a size small and it’s perfect. It skims the body and is a little bit shapeless, but I’m into that look, and adding a belt bag alleviated the bag feeling of the dress. It’s also not too long on my borderline petite frame!

The fabric is sustainable EcoVero jersey and is smooth and comfortable. It’s not sheer and is a good mid weight. The dress has a lot of movement in it. Plus, it’s machine washable! The dress itself features a double v-neck and short side slits. There is a seam running down the front but it’s not super noticeable and doesn’t bother me. The only things that would make this better are pockets!

I can’t even explain how much I love this dress, haha. I wore it three other times after this last week because I want to wear it as much as possible before it’s cold! It’s just so good. I love it for work; it’s long enough and comfy for sitting at my desk all day. I highly recommend it if you’re in the market!
