Summer 2022 Wardrobe Additions
Whew! As we head into fall, it’s time to recap everything I bought this past summer! Interestingly, my color palette is more reminiscent of fall than it is of summer, and some of the items are not super summery. I’m super excited to wear them in the next few months!
I took full advantage of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and also of Everlane’s multiple sales. Surprisingly, I didn’t add anything to my wardrobe from Madewell this summer, but I’m making up for it now.
After my amazing May on Poshmark, sales slowed down considerably, which is a bummer. I need to figure out a schedule for listing/dropping prices/relisting, etc. It’s time to get these things moving, especially because I still have over 40 items to list. Agh! That said, my Poshmark sales did help me not go over budget this past quarter.
Ready to read a novel?! 🤪 Here’s everything I added to my wardrobe this past summer! (I’m slowly adding all of my 2022 clothing purchases to this Pinterest board. Are we friends there yet?!)

Summer 2022 Clothing Budget & Wardrobe Additions
$600 (quarterly budget) = $651 ($266 June + $90 July + $295 August) - $51 earned from Poshmark sales => $0 left over
Items I added to my wardrobe:
Everlane The Day Crossover Sandal in black, sienna brown, and cream (cream not pictured; replaced pair purchased in spring 2021 | seen here, here, and here | paid $55 for black; paid $59 each for sienna brown and cream | originally $75 each)
I took advantage of multiple sales to order one of my favorite pairs of sandals ever in black and sienna brown (the latter through an exchange), and I also re-ordered the cream pair in my usual size 7. Last year I purchased the cream color in size 7.5, and while they work, they feel like they’re going to fall off my feet. They definitely run TTS for me. Love ‘em!
Everlane The Dream Pant (seen here and here | paid $70 | originally $88)
I ordered a second color because I love my forest green dream pants so much! This time I opted for navy. Navy pants can be tricky for me but these have been an absolutely wonderful wardrobe addition so far. I take these pants in a size small but the waist can feel tight when I’m bloated.
Everlane The Way-High Canvas Short (seen here | paid $48 | originally $60)
I ordered these shorts in two colors, bone and adobe brown, in size 4. My old pair of twill shorts (in bone) no longer fit, so I replaced those shorts with these. I was surprised by how much I liked these since the inseam is long(er) for me, but now I think I prefer a slightly longer inseam?! Ha! The size 4 fits comfortably on me, and I also love the high rise.
The North Face High Pile Fleece Pullover (paid $71 | originally $89)
I saw this when browsing Nordstrom in store (in Utah) during the Anniversary Sale (NAS) and immediately ordered it! I couldn’t decide between the three colors but ended up with the blackberry wine (every time I read that, the song Strawberry Wine gets stuck in my head…you’re welcome). It’s sooo soft! I ended up sizing up to a large; I had other (old) TNF pullovers in small but those are now too tight, especially in the shoulders, and I wanted an oversized fit. It’s definitely on the boxy/short side, which works well for me because I’m short. It’s currently 40% off (was 25% off during the NAS).
Quince Tencel Jersey Mini Swing Dress (review here | seen here | paid $30)
I love easy swing dresses! I purchased this dress in brown, size small. I have this thing with brown right now. I love this dress but really debated keeping it because the dang shoulder straps are cut in a way that makes normal bra straps visible. I’m wearing it with a sports bra for now but really could use a real racerback bra! Let me know if you have a favorite. No pockets, unfortunately, but the length is great and hits me just above the knees.
Sarah Flint Natalie Flat (seen here | received c/o Sarah Flint | get $50 off your first order with my referral link)
I’m thrilled to finally own the iconic Sarah Flint flat! The Natalie is gorgeous and extremely high quality. If you’ve never seen SF shoes in person, you’ll be blown away at the craftsmanship. I took these shoes in a half size up (7.5), which is my normal size in the old J.Crew Cece ballet flats for reference (most other shoes I own are in size 7).
Vetta The Elastic Waist Wide Leg Pant (paid $96 | originally $128)
More wide leg pants coming right up! These are a gorgeous machine-washable linen/tencel blend that I think will work year-round with the right styling. I’m also thinking they’ll make great resortwear. The black is so chic! I took a size small.
Zella Live In High Waist Pocket Bike Shorts (paid $35 | originally $49)
I own these bike shorts in black and love ‘em so much that I ordered them in the navy denim color when I saw them in this year’s NAS. Size small fits me well without feeling too tight. These were 33% off during NAS and are now 40% off (limited sizes remaining).
Zella Restore Soft Lounge Longline Bra (size S, not pictured | originally purchased in size XS fall 2020 | paid $37 | originally $49)
I originally bought this two years ago in the NAS in size XS, and while it still fits, size small feels more comfortable. I wear mine for low-impact workouts like hiking, yoga, and just lounging in general. It’s cute enough to wear on its own out and about. This bra was 29% off in the NAS and is not currently on sale in this color (black).
Zella Restore Soft Pocket Joggers (paid $48.50 | originally $69)
I also re-ordered these super soft, super comfy joggers in black, size small in the NAS (I originally ordered the dappled grey color in size XS last summer). While my grey pair still fits, I wanted to try a size up for more comfort. I looove these joggers so much!!! These were 33% off during NAS and are not currently on sale.
Zella Restore Soft Pocket Leggings (size S, not pictured | originally purchased in size XS fall 2020 | paid $42.50 | originally $65)
These leggings match the longline bra. Can’t buy one without buying the other. 😉 These are one of my favorite pairs of Zella leggings! So comfy and not super compressive; I can’t stand when leggings are compressive. Surprisingly, size XS still fits me, but the small is slightly less constricting in the waist. These leggings were 38% off in the NAS, and the black pair is not currently on sale.
Unknown brand olive green baseball cap via Poshmark (not pictured | seen here | used credit)
I found a random unbranded olive green baseball cap while browsing Poshmark and had to walk the seller through a price drop that would give her more money while allowing me to pay less overall, haha. It all worked out in the end, and I love it! I believe it’s from Target but my limited googling of the RN didn’t pull up any helpful results.
Items not included in clothing budget:
I’m letting myself add some cute new swim stuff without eating into my budget since I’m down to only a couple of suits that currently fit, lol. This is a cover-up and not a swimsuit, but isn’t it so cute?! I love the agave green color! I ordered size small, which fits oversized but has that breezy resort vibe that you want out of a cover-up.
This was my first time trying the iconic sidestroke one-piece swimsuit! I fell in love with the olive green color, of course. I have a different Summersalt style in size 2 that is too tight, so I ordered the sidestroke in a size 6. I must admit that it takes some willpower to get it up over my hips, but it fits pretty well once on. The difficult part of one-piece suits is that my hips are wider than my bust, so what fits my bust is tight on my hips/what fits my hips is loose on my bust. I imagine I won’t be swimming too much in it but it’s coming with me on my next beach vacation so we’ll see how it holds up.
Items I tried and returned:
Everlane The Baseball Cap (review here)
You know I love my baseball caps, and I don’t currently own a plain black cap. I should’ve purchased the one Everlane offered prior to this style. The current style is a thicker canvas that was too big on my head (the edges brushed the tops of my ears), so it was returned. I’m hunting for the old style on Poshmark!
Everlane The Way-High Canvas Short in adobe brown
As mentioned above, I ordered these shorts in two colors, bone and adobe brown, in size 4. The adobe brown ended up being a little too orange for my taste; I was hoping it’d look more like a cognac brown. I was going to exchange it for the ash brown color but it wasn’t available in size 4 at the time so I couldn’t do the exchange and instead just had to return.
I purchased these rain boots on impulse during the NAS. I was definitely drawn to the short shaft (I don’t have a pair of Hunters in this style), but the opening was really wide even after adjusting the backs. I really thought about keeping these, but I’m trying to get better about returning things I don’t love 100%. These were 33% off during NAS and are now 40% off.
Ugh, I wanted to love these boots so much! I was most excited for these out of all of my NAS purchases. The white color was absolutely gorgeous. I made the wrong decision and sized up a half size to 7.5 because that’s the size of my other pair of Marc Fisher ankle boots, but these are definitely TTS. I ended up returning because the early reviews scared me a little, and I’m also waiting to see if they go on deeper sale. They were 44% off in the NAS, and now two colors (not white) are 50% off.
I bought this dress at the same time as the tencel swing dress that I kept. I love swing dresses, especially because they’re forgiving in the midsection. I ordered this in terracotta, size small. I wasn’t crazy about the color on me (too orange), but it fit pretty well otherwise (the arm holes were slightly larger than I prefer), and the pintuck/button details were super cute. More colors are available now so I’m tempted to try another color. We are going into fall and winter, though, so perhaps I should hold off for now…
I already own these leggings (or a very similar pair) from fall 2020 in size XS, so I ordered a new in size small…and I couldn’t quite tell if they were the same or not. The fabric felt different to me, but I don’t know if that was because I’ve owned my other leggings for two years now. I ended up returning these after much internal debate, mostly because they didn’t really feel roomier. These were 40% off in the NAS and are now currently 40% off again.
What’s on deck for fall:
Madewell has been offering some great promos as of late, and I’m taking full advantage! I’ve been trying lots of new styles to see if I like any of the latest trends. I shocked myself by ordering these pants; they’re essentially cargo pants (without the big pockets on the sides of the legs). The fabric is lightweight, so they’re not ideal for the colder months. I’d wear them in the spring, summer, and fall. Reviews recommended sizing down; I ordered size 26 (I’m now a 26 or 27) and they are plenty roomy. I may have been able to size down to a 25 but didn’t want to mess with an exchange when the 26 is fine. There are small buttons on the waistband to tighten if necessary.
I was feeling sad about the fact that I don’t fit into my olive green skinny jeans, so I ordered these to try. I’ve had absolutely zero luck with Madewell’s perfect vintage styles in the past so we’ll see how this goes. I ordered these in two sizes to compare (26 and 27). I’m also a little worried that the length might be too long on me.
I was kicking myself for not ordering these in the Insiders sale back in March. They quickly sold out, were restocked, and then Madewell didn’t run any promo on them all summer…until now! Like I said above, perfect vintage styles haven’t worked for me in the past, but I’m drawn to these and need to know if they’ll work or not. I ordered size 27 in the regular length because the petite length is backordered quite a while.
I also ordered these wide leg crop jeans in the current Insiders sale! I love the wash and raw hem and really hope these work for me. I’m going to try two sizes: 27 regular and 27 petite in the curvy style. Wish me luck!
Black lugsole loafers???
I tried The Bradley Lugsole Loafer in Leather by Madewell in cherry wood, size 7 and returned them because they run a half size big, and I wasn’t a big fan of the color. Also still getting used to the idea of lugsole loafers… Taking any recs for relatively inexpensive yet comfortable lugsole loafers!
