Weekly Outfit Diary: A FREE Outfit Planner for Everyday and Travel
Why You Should Plan Your Outfits
Have you ever wanted to use an outfit planner for everyday or a trip? Or maybe you’re interested in documenting what you wear so you have a record of your outfits? (For visual documentation and an outfit calendar, I recommend the Stylebook closet app for iOS.)
If you’re struggling with getting dressed in the mornings, preparing for a change in lifestyle (whether that be starting/ending school or launching a new career), or simply planning for your next vacation, you’ll know exactly what to wear if you plan outfits ahead of time. This also streamlines your packing list so you don’t overpack. (#TeamCarryOnOnly)
If you really want to get down to the nitty gritty of what you’re actually wearing and WHY you’re wearing what you’re wearing, you should document your outfits—and journal about them after you wear them. Side note: May I recommend starting a blog, too? That’s how I got started with mine and it’s been a fun way to see how my style evolves over the years! Haha.
How to Use an Outfit Planner
Using an outfit planner is super easy and fairly self-explanatory! For a guided outfit planner like my new freebie, simply follow the prompts. The key is to be as SPECIFIC as possible with everything you’re asked, and I also suggest you get really honest with yourself. This will help you get the most out of the outfit planner and really hone in on your personal style!
Tips for the Perfect Travel Wardrobe
In addition to the spaces for outfit planning/documentation in the new freebie, there’s also a page for you to write out the items you’re including in a travel or other short-term wardrobe. (This is great for any sort of trip, including vacations and work/academic conferences!)
Here are my top two tips for putting together a perfect travel wardrobe:
1. Pick one base color for your wardrobe. I recommend a neutral like black, grey, brown, navy, cream, or white. Make sure all of your outfits go with this one base color, and pack one pair of shoes, outerwear, accessories, and one bag in this color to streamline your packing list.
2. Follow the 50/30/20 recommendation: 50% tops, 30% bottoms, 20% shoes. I cannot remember where I heard this recommendation the first time, but ever since then I’ve been following it. When in doubt, if you’re packing for a few days to a week, pack around 10 items: 5 tops, 3 bottoms, and 2 pairs of shoes, and scale up for longer trips.
