Wear Your Closet Challenge: Outfits 6–12
Welcome to week two of the Wear Your Closet Challenge! I decided to challenge myself to wear different items every single day for the entire month of January as a way to figure out what I love to wear, discover any glaring wardrobe holes, and determine if anything needs to leave my wardrobe (and what).
Below are outfits 6-12 along with my thoughts on them and what activities each was worn for! Stay tuned for weekly outfit roundups on the blog every Friday in January (with the final outfits and a recap coming February 1st). Follow along on Instagram to see the outfits in real time on Instagram stories. I’m also sharing weekly outfit recap reels on Saturdays. Watch the week 1 reel (outfits 2-6)!
Two other creators are also wearing their closets this month, so be sure to check out their outfits and thoughts as we take on the challenge together: Rebecca of PhD in Clothes and Molly Wetta (formerly of Librarian Style). Join the fun by tagging us and using hashtag #wearyourcloset2023!

Wear Your Closet Challenge: Outfits 6–12
Outfit 6 • Friday, January 6th
Kicking off this week with last Friday’s outfit! I worked from home, and it was the first college gymnastics meet day of the season—woohoo! I used to absolutely dread winter after the holidays, and now I actually look forward to January and February because it’s college gymnastics season. (Read more about why I love college gymnastics so much!)
Every items in this outfit are items I still enjoy wearing and find comfortable. I love the boxy shape of the sweater; I typically reach for a slimmer pant when wearing this sweater, but I opted instead for wide leg track pants and really love how the shapes played off of each other. It’s a basic outfit but a good one. And the comfort was perfect for an evening spent on the couch!

Everlane sweater / old; similar by Madewell or Quince
Everlane pants / similar by NYDJ or Everlane

Outfit 7 • Saturday, January 7th
On to the weekend! I ended up leaving the house on Saturday, which is kind of a rarity for me these days LOL (and especially when it’s gymnastics season). I ran a quick errand downtown to pick up a book I had preordered (Financial Feminist by Tori Dunlap), and then Korri and I stopped by our favorite bagel place. After that, we went to the Boise State men’s basketball game, where BSU killed Utah State.
The jeans are favorites of mine; I find myself reaching for them constantly. I wish Madewell would release more of the slim demi-boot style! I like it better than straight legs. I kept to a simple color palette with the coordinating flannel shirt and wool sneakers. I tried a Pinterest trick to “tying” my shirt in front and really loved how it looked (stick the ends between the last two button holes instead of actually tying it). I wear my packable puffer all of the time even though it still has a hole from when I tripped on a boardwalk and face-planted on a nail in Yellowstone (you can barely see the bandaid on my coat from this angle haha).

Outfit 8 • Sunday, January 8th
Lazy Sunday! We probably wouldn’t have left the house if my brother hadn’t asked us if we could help him move some things. There wasn’t anything left to move by the time we showed up so I guess that worked out for us (and we still got to eat my brother and his girlfriend’s homemade pizza—yum!). Korri and I stayed after dinner to help mount the TV (Korri did most of the helping, but I have a pretty good eye for hanging things straight ha).
I threw on a comfy sweatshirt and leggings for this outing. The sweatshirt is one of my favorite things in my closet. I love the leggings, but since I bought them a couple of years ago, they now fit more snug than they used to. I did purchase a second pair in a size up over the summer but have yet to pull those out of the packaging (gulp!) because my original size still worked. Now I’m considering pulling out the new pair…

Outfit 9 • Monday, January 9th
Back to the office for the first time in over two weeks! I was so not looking forward to waking up earlier and commuting to work. It poured rain all day, so I wore the rain boots I wear most often in the rain (since they’re black, have a short shaft, and go with everything).
I had a Zoom presentation and had considered wearing a blazer of some type but instead opted for a simple cashmere sweater. I also put earrings on, but you couldn’t see them when I had my headphones in. In hindsight, I would’ve worn a necklace instead of earrings. This outfit was fine but a little boring. I would’ve preferred to wear a more oversized sweater with these pants since they’re so slim. Plus, this sweater shrunk a bit when I washed it (boo) so it feels slimmer now than than when I reviewed it in 2021.
OUTFIT DETAILS
Quince sweater / exact (review here) or similar by J.Crew
Universal Standard pants / exact or similar by J.Crew
Sperry boots / old; similar from Zappos or Amazon
Maison Miru earrings / exact or similar by Target
unknown brand hat / similar by Target
Outfit 10 • Tuesday, January 10th
I was in the office again on Tuesday, so hard pants it was. This particular pair of skinny jeans is one of only a handful I own that fit me comfortably. I just adore them! And they’re the curvy style, which is basically all I want to wear because they don’t give me the dreaded waist gap in the back.
This is another outfit where I considered options for a more oversized sweater (to balance the skinny jeans), but I still have a bunch that need washed (or that need to be ironed lol). This is the cashmere “sweatshirt” by Quince—it’s basically just a sweater with the sweatshirt-like knit detail at the neck. The color I’m wearing is called desert sage. It’s a different one for me and it’s beautiful!
Since rain was still in the forecast, though not quite as much as what we got on Monday, I wore my waterproof Blondo ankle boots. Blondo boots are just fabulous. They really are waterproof, and they don’t even look like I’ve worn them outside much at all! I do recommend sizing up at least one half size in their boots (or a full size if you plan to wear thicker socks).
Outfit 11 • Wednesday, January 11th
WFH Wednesday! I looove a monochrome moment, especially an unexpected one like this. I’ve actually worn this outfit in the past and wanted to document it on the blog at some point. Here it is! The tee and pants coordinate well for not being from the same brand.
The cardigan is still a favorite many years later, and I love the ABLE Mae drapey tees (I now own three colors), though I do wish they were a touch less oversized than they are. I feel like I have to adjust them regularly because they move around so much. These pants are also wonderful, but I hate how they shrunk in the wash and are now quite a bit shorter than they used to be. They’re also pretty snug in the waist. I KNOW these things are telling me that it’s time to get rid of them, but my heart doesn’t want to just yet…
OUTFIT DETAILS
Grana cardigan / old; similar by Quince or Saks Fifth Avenue
ABLE tee / exact or similar by Amazon
MATE the Label pants / exact style or similar by Old Navy
Outfit 12 • Thursday, January 12th
Finally: Yesterday’s WFH outfit! It was another uneventful day spent at home. I put on a flannel shirt I hadn’t worn in a while; I love Madewell’s flannel Sunday shirts (they have hidden side pockets) but I realized that I don’t wear flannel shirts as often I as I think I do. I much prefer wearing sweaters in the winter.
I also put on an old pair of joggers. Simply put, they do not fit me anymore. The rise is lower than my belly button, and I feel totally exposed when wearing them because I carry weight in my midsection (even though the shirt was covering my gut). They just aren’t doing it for me anymore. And I doubt I will wear low rise anything ever again!!!
