Briogeo Reviews
The first Briogeo hair product I ordered was the Don’t Despair, Repair! deep conditioning mask back in 2020. Since then, I’ve tried a number of other products! In case you’re new to the brand, Briogeo is a Black woman-founded business that strives to make clean, plant-based products that work for all hair types and textures. I had heard such good things about the brand which is why I decided to try it for myself a few years ago. FYI: This post is not sponsored; I purchased all of these products myself! (I always disclose when posts are sponsored. I’m a rule follower!)
Below, I reviewed all of the Briogeo hair products I’ve tried. I’m a big fan of the Don’t Despair, Repair! line in particular, but there are some products I feel meh about. I also shared a little bit about my hair, the Briogeo products I want to try next, and the retailers that carry Briogeo. What are your favorite Briogeo hair products? What should I try next? Let us know in the comments!
About My Hair
I don’t really dabble that much in hair care and my beauty routine in general. I’m very low maintenance when it comes to my hair. I had thick dirty blonde hair for years (first naturally blonde and then blonder via highlights), and the texture has always been a bit coarse. Over the past few years, it’s gotten thinner and I’ve had hair loss (I blame a lot of this on COVID—both the stressors of COVID and catching it myself last year) and darker (I stopped highlighting, so now it’s my natural color), and of course, I have grey hair coming in too. I swear my hair needs new shampoo and conditioner every few months or it “gets used” to what I’m using and it doesn’t work anymore. I currently wash my hair twice a week.
I do not consider myself a beauty blogger, but I love reading recommendations from regular people like me so I hope that, if you’re the same way, this post is somewhat helpful for you too! Be sure to check out the Life at Home page to find all of my beauty-related posts!

Don’t Despair, Repair! Super Moisture Shampoo | 2 oz for $15, 16 oz for $39, 33.8 oz for $69
Key Ingredients: Rosehip oil, algae extract, plant proteins, B vitamins
After trying the deep conditioning mask and loving it (more on that below), I decided to order the shampoo and conditioner from the same Don’t Despair, Repair! line. The shampoo has a fairly runny texture, and I feel like I need a LOT of it before it feels like it’s cleaning. I’m not sure if that’s just because I’ve used the same 16 ounce bottle for a while now. I might prefer the shampoo in the mini 2 ounce travel size bottles. If you need a new travel shampoo and conditioner, I really do love this one! I’m just not sure how much I love the large bottle of shampoo. I prefer shampoos that lather really well, which I know isn’t a good indicator of how well it can clean. I need that illusion!
Don’t Despair, Repair! Super Moisture Conditioner | 2 oz for $15, 16 oz for $39, 33.8 oz for $69
Key Ingredients: Almond oil, algae extract, vitamin B5, argan oil
I prefer the Don’t Despair, Repair! conditioner to the shampoo. I’ve read that in general, the shampoo you use doesn’t matter as much as the conditioner because the shampoo doesn’t stay on your head for as long; its purpose is to clean your hair and scalp and that’s about it. This is a good conditioner! I alternate this conditioner with one of the masks below. I will say that I do NOT like the bottle. I got a pump with the shampoo but not the conditioner, which makes sense I suppose because the conditioner is thicker, but I have to unscrew the top and turn it upside down to get any of it out. The mini size has worked great, though!
Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask | 8 oz for $39, 12 oz for $46, 32 oz for $124
Key Ingredients: Rosehip oil, algae extract, almond oil, biotin
The Briogeo deep conditioning mask is the item that started it all for me! I’ve been using it basically once a week every week since fall 2020. I use a small amount of this mask in place of conditioner on the days that I shave my legs (since this needs to stay on your head for around 10 minutes), and I focus on the ends and bottom half of my hair (but will pat the excess over the rest of my head). By morning, my hair is so soft! I love the texture; it looks dangerously like some sort of sweet frosting, haha. It’s like a sweet treat for my hair! I’ve repurchased this hair mask countless times. Get the mini size for your travels!
Superfoods Avocado + Kiwi Mega Moisture Hair Mask | 2 oz for $15, 8 oz for $39, 33.8 oz for $125
Key Ingredients: Avocado oil, kiwi extract, chia seed oil, spinach
I honestly can’t remember what possessed me to order the Superfoods mega moisture hair mask (my jar still has the old Be Gentle, Be Kind branding on it), but I’m glad I did! It has the BEST scent—light and fruity! It smells like it would taste really good, ha. (Don’t eat it though. 😆) Just like with the Don’t Despair, Repair! deep conditioning mask, I use this hair mask in place of conditioner once a week (I usually switch between the masks but have been favoring this one as of late). It doesn’t feel like it weighs my hair down at all while making it shiny!
Don’t Despair, Repair! Vegan Apple Honey Deep Conditioning Hair Mask (currently unavailable)
Key Ingredients: Rosehip oil, algae extract, almond oil, B vitamins, panthenol, biotin
Briogeo offered the Don’t Despair, Repair! honey bear hair mask for a limited time. It’s not currently available right now but definitely check the website just in case it makes a comeback! It also came in a set with mini shampoo and conditioner bottles that I use for travel. I’ll be honest: This is my least favorite Briogeo product of the ones I tried! I was totally swayed by the cute bear shape and great reviews, but I really didn’t notice anything special about this mask, and the cute bear bottle split when trying to get the mask out, which resulted in the mask leaking everywhere. I ended up selling the second bear I had purchased.
Don’t Despair, Repair! Strengthening Treatment Oil | 1 oz for $30
Key Ingredients: Ceramides, macadamia nut derivative, rose flower oil, sweet almond oil
When I purchased a set of Don’t Despair, Repair! shampoo and conditioner, it came with one of the strengthening treatment oils. I typically use a small (nickel-sized) amount of Moroccanoil to my ends post-shower while my hair is still damp, and I used this oil in place of the Moroccanoil. This one is fine! I prefer Moroccanoil so I don’t plan to repurchase this unless I’m getting another set and it’s included. Sometimes the tiny flower inside the bottle prevents much of the product from coming out.
Scalp Revival Charcoal + Biotin Dry Shampoo | 1.7 oz for $26
Key Ingredients: Binchotan charcoal; biotin; clay, tapioca, and rice starch complex; witch hazel
The Scalp Revival dry shampoo is my most recent Briogeo purchase. I saw it recommended by someone I follow on IG, and I’m easily influenced! Lol. I was also intrigued by this dry shampoo because it’s non-aerosol. You could travel with it in a carry-on bag—and since it’s not a liquid, it won’t take up space in your liquids bag.
I really struggled and was not impressed the first time I used this; I could barely get any out! My second time using it was much more successful. You turn the top until the nozzle is exposed and just squeeze the bottle. I’m not sure how I messed it up the first time, ha. It will seem like a lot of powder comes out at once. I still felt like I needed to use quite a bit on my hair, and it felt like it only lasted a day before I needed a shower. (TIP: Apply your dry shampoo at night before you go to bed and you’ll be good to go in the morning!) I do like that it’s non-aerosol, and I hope I get the hang of application with more uses!
Briogeo Products To Try
I’ve heard such good things about the Briogeo Scalp Revival micro-exfoliating shampoo made with charcoal and coconut oil. Sometimes I really feel like there’s a lot of build up on my scalp, and this shampoo would help with that. Though, shampoos like this make me nervous because I used a different but similar shampoo in the past and it felt like sooo much of my hair came out! I still think I want to try this one, though. What else should I try?!
