Best Sartorial Purchases of 2015
Now for the good news: my best purchases of 2015! I love most of the items I added to my wardrobe last year, and I'm proud of myself for how well I shopped compared to how I shopped in years past. I was more intentional and picked out more versatile pieces. I also had a relatively cohesive color palette from month to month and basically everything goes with everything else in my closet, so I consider that a success! :) Below are my top eight best purchases of the year. Three of them are from the same brand!
Everlane Cashmere Sweater {purchased January 2015}
Original posts: left / middle / right
Even though this sweater was one of my most expensive purchases of the year, it was so worth it! This sweater is my first 100% cashmere sweater, and I'm hooked. I want all of Everlane's cashmere. For the price, the quality just can't be beat, in my opinion. I won't even chance the cashmere offered by J.Crew and Madewell. Because of this sweater, I asked for a second cashmere sweater for my birthday. I've actually worn both sweaters an equal amount of times. I'm tempted to pick up a third in a more neutral color like grey or black (since the burgundy color I wanted sold out). I'm only hesitant because of the dry cleaning bill, though I've read that there's a way to hand wash cashmere...I should try that!
J.Crew 'Cece' Ballet Flats {purchased January 2015}
Original posts: top left / top right / bottom left / bottom right
I came across these beauties on eBay in January and somehow won them for only $29 including shipping. They are the original made-in-Italy flats, and I was so excited to finally have a black pair! Even though I also have a pair of black loafers, I get so much wear out of both pairs. I really like wearing the flats with skirts and dresses (as evidenced above). I would love to find a pair of the original Ceces in a blue color.
Everlane Marled Sweatshirt {purchased February 2015}
Original post here
This sweatshirt narrowly beat out a flannel shirt for this spot. The reason why I picked this instead of another garment even though I've only featured it in one outfit post is because I wear it basically all spring and fall as loungewear. It's an easy piece to throw on, and it feels more pulled-together than typical loungewear. I'm considering adding a second one to my collection because I wear this one so much. (Plus, the price is right!) You can purchase one for yourself here.
LOFT Statement Earrings {purchased March 2015}
Original posts: top left / top right / bottom left / bottom right
I impulse bought these earrings last March, probably to hit the free shipping threshold. I had no idea they'd be one of my most worn pairs of earrings! I figured I'd wear them because they're neutral yet interesting, and I have worn them a TON since I got them. Above are four of the 11 outfits I've featured them in on here alone. According to my Stylebook app, I've worn them 23 times, and their cost per wear is the best out of everything in my wardrobe at 36 cents per wear. I'm certain these beauties will be a workhorse for years to come!
Coach 'City' Vintage Bag {purchased March 2015}
Original posts: top left / top right / bottom left / bottom right
When I discovered the perfect cognac color that is Coach's "British tan" and realized that you could buy well-made vintage Coach purses for a fraction of a new Coach purse, I immediately went on the hunt for the perfect bag. I set up an eBay alert for the Coach 'City' bag in British tan, and this one appeared and seemed perfect. The price was right, so I watched it to make sure the price stayed reasonable. Right before the listing ended, I bid, but someone else got into a bidding war with me. I was determined to win, so I went well above the budget I had initially set for myself...but it was worth it! (I swear the vintage bags surged in popularity when I was searching for mine.) I adore this bag; it goes with everything, and it's an especially excellent match with my Madewell 'Billie' boots. :)
Madewell Skinny Skinny Jeans in Lydon Wash {purchased April 2015}
Original posts: top left / top right / bottom left / bottom right
I added a few new pairs of jeans and pants this year, but this pair from Madewell is hands down my best of those purchases. I've gotten a lot more wear out of this wash than I thought I would! I really like having the variety of this lighter wash in addition to my medium and dark wash options. I've already worn this pair 26 days since I bought them, which is pretty amazing considering the other options I have and the fact that I didn't wear them all summer. I look forward to wearing them a lot more!
Everlane Chunky Knit Cardigan {purchased October 2015}
Original posts: left / right
Wearing this cardigan is like wearing a giant, socially-acceptable blanket. It's a perfect travel companion as well as after-school loungewear. Even though I did buy it a size too big, I still adore this cardigan SO much and I'm really happy I picked it up in October. It is starting to pill now that I've had it for a few months, but I've read that Everlane fixed the problem with their newest batch of chunky wool. I don't mind picking off the pulls every once in a while. You can pick one up for yourself from the Limited Production Collection by clicking here (they dropped the price $20!).
Madewell 'City Grid' Coat {purchased November 2015}
Original posts: left / right
I am absolutely in love with this coat! I am so grateful that I received the gift card which allowed me to buy it. It's basically a dream coat. The color is perfect, and it's so warm! I cannot say enough good things about it. This coat has inspired me to overhaul my jacket and coat collection; I sold a couple of older coats that didn't fit as well and purchased my new plaid coat to spice it up a bit. I'd love to also add a black parka and grey coat to my collection, but I haven't found the right ones just yet.
Honorable mentions go to my Penfield plaid flannel shirt (seen here), my L.L. Bean plaid flannel shirt (seen here), my Clare Vivier for & Other Stores bucket bag (seen here), and my Guess leather jacket (seen here). I had a lot of great buys in 2015! Looking forward to many more in 2016. :)
