On wearing new vs. old favorites
What is it about new items that make us want to wear them right away and neglect our old favorites? Is it just because they're new and therefore more exciting? I mean, it's pretty fun to take a new pair of shoes or a new dress out for a spin (and hope that people notice enough to compliment the new addition), but it's also nice to have the items that have been tried and tested and proven their worth for months or even years. As a grad student with a limited income, even though it would be fun to have something new to wear every day (as unrealistic as that would be), I actually prefer having a wardrobe made up of old favorites with a few new favorites sprinkled in to liven things up a bit. I've been trying to make a conscious effort to wear and share outfits featuring older pieces. My goal with this blog is to share outfits I actually wear in my real life, and I strive to be inspirational as opposed to aspirational.
Here's an outfit made up entirely of pieces that are at least a year old. (Well, except the sunglasses, but I add a new pair in every few months as they get beat up quickly from constant wear!) A white tee, red mini skirt, and black sandals don't make for the most exciting outfit ever blogged, but hey—it's what I wore, and this is my blog. ;)
