Harry's razors for him and for her

I'll be honest: When it comes to beauty and wellness products, if I find something that works, I tend to stick with it. I'm not one to try a bunch of different products on the off chance that I find something better unless I'm influenced by someone else (usually someone I know in real life or a fellow blogger that I trust). When Harry's reached out to me to try one of their razors, I figured I had nothing to lose. My usual razors worked fine and seemed to last a while (I probably use razors for far longer than intended, haha), but perhaps this one worked comparably—and because Harry's business model is similar to Everlane's—maybe it would end up being a worthy, cost-effective replacement.

You may have heard of Harry's before—and if so, you probably recall that they specifically target men in their marketing. Now, I'm not saying that everything made for men should also be made for women, but a razor? Harry's razors looked like other razors made for women, so it seemed like women could also use them. Sure, the handles lean on the masculine side, but...I don't need my razors to radiate femininity in order for them to have a place in my shower. It's just a razor, after all. ;)

With that, I picked the Truman Set in "Nautilus Blue" for myself (the grippier handle is ideal for use in the shower) and the sleek chrome Winston Set for my boyfriend to try since he doesn't shave in the shower. Both sets come with a complete razor, two replacement heads, a 4 oz. container of foaming shave gel, and a travel blade cover. The only difference between the two is the handle.

When it comes to the price, the sets are an excellent value. The Truman Set comes in at $15 ($9 razor) while the Winston Set comes in at $25 ($20 razor). The replacements heads are $2 each ($4 total in this set), the shave gel is $4, and the travel blade cover isn't available on its own. The best part is that if you love the razor, replacement blades are only $2 each—or you can buy 16 to get the cost down to $1.75 each. Replacement blades for most other razors (such as the popular Gillette Venus razor for women or Gillette Fusion ProGlide for men) will run you about $2.50-$5 each. Those dollars add up over time, especially if you're living on a limited income like me. Shipping is free if you spend at least $10 on Harry's website, or I've also seen Harry's products available at Target stores.

We've had our sets for about three weeks now, and my boyfriend was the first to give his products a spin. He's very similar to me in that he isn't a shaving or product snob. He lathered up his face with the shave gel, which is something he doesn't usually use because he dislikes the strong scents, and noted that a little goes a long way. Harry's shave gel has that typical "manly" smell (how do you even describe it?), and it is quite strong so he hasn't used it since. He's one of the lucky ones that can shave with just water without irritating his face. The shave gel aside, the razor worked as intended, and he hasn't had to change the blade yet. (He usually shaves 2-3 times per week and goes 2-3 months between new blades.) He thinks the razor is comparable to the more expensive Gillette Fusion ProGlide razor.

I, on the other hand, am a clumsy and nervous wreck when I use a brand new blade (am I alone in that?). I tried mine first on my underarms after lathering up with the shave gel (I tried with just a little and it didn't lather as much as I was expecting, so I think my idea of "a little goes a long way" might be different from his). Guess what I did on my first try? Cut my underarm when I twisted the razor on accident. And if you've done that before, you know that does not feel good. Haha.

I tried it again on my legs on a different night and it worked like a dream! I'm not sure if it's the fact that I was using a new blade, but it made my legs feel so smooth, and it glided easily over my knees (I was extra careful not to cut myself). Since then, I hadn't cut myself again until a few days ago. That time, I cut my other underarm. I know, I'm a mess. At least you know the blades are sharp? I think I might just use it on my legs until the blade dulls enough that I won't worry about it slicing up my underarms. Like I mentioned, we've had them for three weeks and they're still going strong! I can usually get a few months out of my razor blades so we'll see how long these last. (For reference, I shave my underarms about every couple of days and my legs about once a week.)

It's super easy to change the blade when the time comes—just squeeze the notched sides connecting the blade to the handle and it pops right off! I popped one off on accident while shooting photos for this post, but as long as you don't normally grip the handle at that location, you won't have to worry about the blade popping off in the middle of your shave.

I think if I can get the handle of shaving my underarms (I feel like a teenager just learning how to use a razor, ha!), I can see myself using this razor for quite a while since the replacement blades are so reasonably priced!
