My 2020 Life Reset: Quarter 1 Update
It is FINALLY the end of March. It felt like the longest month ever, right? A lot has happened since I shared my plan to “reset” my life at the start of January, and the current global situation has affected my goals a lot more than I thought it would. Things aren’t really happening as much as I hoped they would. Still, here’s a quick update on what I’ve accomplished up until this point.
2020 Life Reset: Quarter 1 Update
1. Declutter and organize one room per month
In January, I worked on the living room. I went through the bookshelves and the cabinets and moved things elsewhere if needed, pulled some things to donate, and organized. I look around now, though, and it’s still a mess. Lol. We live primarily in our living room, so it is constantly messy…and I guess I should just get used to it. I did make a list of projects I would like to do in the living room eventually (some are small projects, like hanging some photos, and some are big, like turning the area rug). I got to cross off one project: go through my candles, select some for donation, and reorganize the rest!
I slacked off in February and couldn’t decide which room(s) to work on next, which led to me just doing random little things and not focus on one space. Then, the pandemic started, and yeah…nothing got done this month, either. So now I’m two months behind. I did have a two-month buffer in my plan, so I hope I find the motivation in April to get back to this. I’m still working on little things here and there, but now is a good time to really dive into making our spaces look like how we want them to look!
2. Use up products before buying new ones
I have been doing quite well at using up products so far! (This goal applies to skincare/makeup, cleaning products, dry goods, etc.) I do need to go through my bathroom and kitchen cabinets and make sure I know what I have and group like-products together, but so far this goal is going well. The downside to using up products right now, of course, is the fact that stores are running low on stock because we’re in a pandemic and people keep panic buying everything. It’d be great if that could stop so the rest of us could pick up things as they run out! It’s gotten to the point where I ask Korri to pick up something that we haven’t run out of but will need eventually if he sees it in stock at the store…
3. Learn how to and start investing
I had initially considered investing my tax refund, but I ended up sticking it in savings for now (a good idea, in hindsight). I was thinking I’d start a Roth IRA, and then the pandemic happened and the market crashed. So, ya know…I think I’ll be putting this one on hold for now unless I start with a different route (buying stocks since they’re low…? I don’t know where else to start lol).
4. Figure out a better work/blog/life balance
This is another goal I’ve been doing better at, especially now that I’m working from home and saving myself 30-40 minutes every day by not commuting! I haven’t been staying up so late working on posts, and in addition to blogging, I’m still finding time after work to hang out with Korri, watch (lots of) TV, work out, and clean up around the house.
5. Improve my mental health
Back in January, I looked into the mental health sessions provided by my health insurance but the website wasn’t very clear as to how to go about finding a therapist…it talks about calling to speak with a counselor but it’s not clear if I’ll get referred to someone that I can meet with in person or if the phone counselor is all we get? I don’t know, I got confused and then sort of gave up on this goal for now, especially since we aren’t able to go anywhere anytime soon. It sure would be nice to have a therapist with everything happening in the world right now, though…

So, yeah, like I said…things aren’t really going to plan right now. LOL. At this point, I’ll be happy if I can get through the pandemic, so I’m trying to be easy on myself for now, and hopefully I can dive back into “resetting” my life after this is over!
