Like I’m sure it did to many of you, the news of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death shook me to my core. I spent all of Friday night either crying/worrying about the future of our country or zoned out on the couch/napping/watching Love Island (which did make me laugh a couple of times, bless).

I felt totally hopeless. And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t still feel hopeless.

But, I’m not letting myself wallow forever. We need to honor RBG’s incredibly legacy and do what she would want us to do: keep fighting. And most importantly, VOTE.

Are you registered to vote?

  • If yes: DOUBLE CHECK your registration to make sure everything is correct and hasn’t been edited or removed! If you moved recently or are attending school away from your home address, update your registration (or make a plan now to vote absentee at your old address—and follow through). Voter suppression is rampant, so check your registration often.

  • If no: REGISTER to vote! Many states have registration deadlines prior to Election Day so register now so you don’t have to worry about missing the date.

Fun fact: Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020 is National Voter Registration Day!

If you plan to vote by mail, request your absentee ballot. Once you have received your absentee ballot, VOTE! Mail back your ballot as soon as possible to avoid USPS delays. Or, if you have decided to vote early or on Election Day in person, make that plan now by keeping track of key dates for your state and setting reminders for yourself. Then, VOTE!

Support efforts to flip Senate seats

Obviously, whoever is in the White House is important. The presidential race is always important. However, there are some key Senate races this year that are equally (if not more) important. We need FOUR (or possibly five depending on Alabama) Senate seats to take back the majority in the Senate. If you live in one of the battleground states, VOTE!!! Your vote is so important! If you don’t live in one of the battleground states, you can support their efforts by “adopting” one of the states and volunteering—visit Vote Save America to learn more about that.

If you’re able, considering donating to their campaigns! An amazing option is the Get Mitch or Die Trying campaign, which takes your donation and splits it evenly between a number of Senate candidates (currently 14).

Be active in your community!

Make sure your family and friends are registered to vote and have requested their ballot or made their voting plan. If you’re active on social media, encourage your followers to vote and remind them of the implications if we don’t all do our part and vote. Relay information about the candidates and their campaigns. Contact your current Senators to tell them to hold off on confirming a new SC justice until there’s a new president (per RBG’s request) and encourage others to do the same. If you have time, take part in phone or text banking. Now is NOT the time to be silent or just sit around and hope for the best. We have only six weeks until Election Day. It is crunch time.

Looking to add cute vote-themed items to you closet?

P.S. This will be my only post of the week, as Korri and I have planned a socially-distanced vacation in an area without wifi. We haven’t traveled or taken time off work since our trip to the Cook Islands a full year (!) ago, so I’m in desperate need of a break! See you next Wednesday (or earlier if we’re friends on Instagram)! 🤗
