My Baseball Cap Collection + Affordable Baseball Caps Under $40
If you know me, you know I looove baseball caps! I wear one every day (not kidding—you know if you watch my Instagram stories haha!) and have been slowing growing my collection over the years. Who has time to do their hair everyday nowadays?! Not me! I just throw mine up under my hat and call it a day. They’re perfect for work from home life, weekend life, running errands, going outside… basically everything!
Last year I bought quite a few to add a little variety and get me through WFH life. I also have a few others that I don’t consider part of my regular closet (on Stylebook that is) but that I wear regularly, too. Here’s my current baseball cap collection, and I also rounded up a bunch of affordable baseball caps under $40 in the widget at the end of this post!
MY BASEBALL CAP COLLECTION
I have seven baseball caps that I consider part of my regular Stylebook wardrobe plus five that I wear regularly but that are not in Stylebook. The baseball caps not in Stylebook are the ones with graphics on them: my red NASA hat, blue BSU gymnastics hat, olive green Folklore hat, grey Seattle Mariners hat, and red Utah gymnastics hat (the newest of the bunch).
Six of the seven baseball caps in my main wardrobe are pictured here! Click on any of the images below to be taken to the original outfit post. I do have another newbie that has yet to make its appearance on the blog or on social media. Here’s what I own as of now:
Madewell grey wool baseball cap (no longer available; check Poshmark)
Everlane off-white baseball cap (exact in black)
Everlane soft olive baseball cap (exact in black)
Madewell cotton-linen baseball cap (similar)
Madewell blue baseball cap in textural stripe (no longer available; check Poshmark)
Madewell pink velvet baseball cap (no longer available; check Poshmark)
Madewell x Parks Project Naturalist Program embroidered baseball cap (new!)
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A BASEBALL CAP
As I think I have somewhat of a smallish head, I’m a little bit picky when it comes to baseball caps. In addition to general fit, I’m also always on the lookout for unique baseball caps to add to my collection. I’m all about different textures and colors—the more variety, the merrier! Here are some of my favorite baseball cap features:
Adjustable back that’s easy to adjust —a must for small heads
Size that doesn’t brush against my ears — I have a couple that do but I try to avoid these
Washable fabric — not a dealbreaker but much easier to keep clean; baseball caps can go in the washing machine OR the dishwasher (my parents used to wash them in the dishwasher lol)
Neutral colors — go with everything
Fun colors that still coordinate with my wardrobe
Textures — the majority of them are not washable but I still love them (wool, velvet, etc.)
Rounded bill — not a fan of the flat bills
Hole in the back — so I have a place to put all of my hair
WHERE TO BUY BASEBALL CAPS
If it wasn’t obvious, I tend to prefer buying my baseball caps from Madewell and Everlane. Madewell usually has a great variety of different baseball caps in each new season and offers new colors and textures to go with the seasons. Everlane’s hats fit me well and can be easily washed. I want them to offer more colors!
Other great places to buy baseball caps include J.Crew Factory, Nordstrom, ABLE, Zappos, ASOS, and Target. I included a bunch of baseball caps from these retailers in the widget below! Another option is to buy from athletic-wear retailers like Adidas, Nike, New Balance, etc. Pay attention to how the caps fit the models in each retailers’ stock photos. You likely can’t go too wrong with any retailer and I would recommend trying anything that strikes your fancy!
HOW TO STYLE BASEBALL CAPS
Baseball caps lend themselves well to casual outfits, of which I am all about! They always go well with a pair of denim, of course, but there are so many other outfit possibilities. Like I said at the start, I wear mine with anything and everything these days! Here are a few of my go-to outfit combinations with baseball caps:
Basic tee and jeans — can’t ever go wrong with this classic
Basic tee and shorts — classic, summer edition
Tee dress and sneakers
Shirt dress and sandals
Cropped tee and high-rise skirt
Cardigan, tee or tank, and jeans
Any and all activewear
Any and all loungewear
