Casual Cool in Washable Silk
Blogging nowadays is way more focused on creating content that serves your audience in some way than it used to be. I mean, I (and I think most other bloggers would agree) always strive for my content to be helpful or, at the very least, inspirational and relatable...but now “serving your audience” is literally all the “experts” will tell you to do. We apparently shouldn’t create content at all if it’s not helpful in some way.
There is a huge focus on SEO, and while I’ve been caring more about that than I used to when I started blogging nearly nine years ago (and wish I cared more about at the beginning, to be honest), sometimes it’s fun to go back to my roots and just share an outfit for the hell of it. I do share a little bit about the specifics of Amour Vert’s washable silk below, but for the most part, it’s just one I liked and thought you would too! ❤️
Casual Cool in Washable Silk
This is the 2022 version of my Casual Cool outfit that I wore back in July 2017! It’s my July 5 Years Later 2.0 outfit, haha. Most of you wanted me to re-create this one when I asked you on Instagram, and I ended up going with Summer Uniform instead. Then I figured, what the heck—I’m going to wear and photograph the other one just for fun. This outfit definitely felt like the safer option between the two which is why I wanted to challenge myself with the other outfit.
Korri and I shot this outfit downtown, and it was unexpectedly quite windy. We’ve been having a hell of a time finding good locations to shoot because the sun angle is so high right now that even tall buildings aren’t totally blocking the sun on the streets around them. (We’ve also only had time to shoot in the middle of the day as of late, which is definitely not ideal.) Anyway, the random breeze made for interesting hair styles. Ha!
Amour Vert Washable Silk
Recently, Amour Vert released its own version of washable silk. I personally didn’t start wearing real silk until I started blogging many years ago, and while I enjoyed the feeling of silk on my skin, I realized that it’s too high maintenance for me. I rarely wore it in favor of fabrics that were easier to care for. I’m so excited that more and more retailers have figured out that most of us are too busy/poor/cheap to dry clean and/or hand wash our silk items and have started offering a machine-washable alternative!
Amour Vert’s washable silk is not actually silk at all. My top, which is the Calla blouse (shop the exact style in different colors and patterns here, here, and here; I’m wearing a small), is made from 100% viscose, which is derived from wood pulp. I actually don’t think it feels at all like silk, either. I find it to be more lightweight and breathable in hot weather. I have not washed my top to confirm that it really is washable because I’m slightly worried about shrinkage, but I’m glad I don’t have to baby this top like I do with my real silk items! I definitely recommend trying it for yourself if you’ve been looking for washable silk. (It makes lovely workwear!)
