Link Love, vol. 27
Hello, hello! Happy August! I’m home after a long weekend away in the Salt Lake City area for a gymnastics meet. It was my longest drive ever without another person or animal in the car with me. I ended up borrowing Circe by Madeline Miler on audiobook from my library for the long drive after seeing it recommended by many people (more on that below). I cannot tell you really what it’s about because it was very hard to follow all of the characters/ancient Greek names, but I do very much remember the birthing scenes. 😬 LOL.
While in SLC, I had one day to do whatever and spent my time at the mall making returns and checking out the stores I don’t have locally. I also stopped in Madewell; even though I have a store, I rarely get to it. I tried on these slim straight leg jeans and this midi skirt (in a different color) but didn’t end up buying anything at Madewell or anywhere else.
With school right around the corner, thousands of teachers around the country need our help providing for their classrooms. (Of course, there should be SYSTEMIC change so that crowdfunding is not needed, but for now, teachers need our help so they aren’t spending thousands of their own money on stocking their classrooms with needed items.) Our favorite infectious disease researcher/COVID educator, Laurel Bristow, is collecting teacher wish lists in this Google Doc.
As I mentioned above, I borrowed Circe by Madeline Miller on audiobook for my road trip to Utah. It came highly recommended by a variety of people who shared their favorite audiobooks for road trips (via Cup of Jo). The sheer number of recommended books will keep you busy listening for months!
I saved this audio on Instagram and knew I had to use it in a reel…and then the perfect idea popped into my head! I don’t buy a lot of multiples unless the item is REAL good, and these sandals are amazing. 😉
Can you believe the 2012 Summer Olympics were TEN WHOLE YEARS AGO?! It was only the second time ever that the U.S. women’s gymnastics team won team gold! (And now two of them are gymnastics coaches at Arkansas—Jordyn Wieber and Kyla Ross.) It’s been ten years since McKayla Maroney’s iconic vault that I’m still bitter didn’t score a perfect 10.
The U.S. Department of Justice is suing Idaho over its abortion trigger ban that goes into effect later this month (via Idaho Capital Sun). I’m honestly glad this is happening. The Idaho GOP gives zero shits about women/birthing people and babies in Idaho. On a related note, I’m so happy that Kansas voted to retain their constitutional right to abortions!
Wildfire season is in full force out here in the western U.S. Did you hear about this? Strong updrafts/”firenados” in the big Washburn Fire in Yosemite was causing trees to shoot into the sky and FALL ON TOP OF the fire planes fighting the fire (via San Francisco Chronicle).
There’s so much new music being released as of late! Two of my favorite artists, Maggie Rogers and Matt Nathanson, released new albums last Friday, July 29th. I’m seeing Matt Nathanson live in September for the first time in forever and cannot wait!
A little late summer wish list: medium wash wide leg jeans by Madewell (perfect summer to fall transitional denim), colorful maxi dresses by Farm Rio (a new-to-me brand with such bright and beautiful prints for your next beach vacation!), a tencel sleeveless blouse by Amour Vert (in a vibrant pre-fall color), and an ice cream tub by The Container Store (Korri got an ice cream machine so we need something to store our homemade ice cream).
