What to Wear in 60-degree Weather
Every time the weather either cools down to 60 degrees after summer (or warms to 60 degrees after winter), it’s like I forget what to wear! I seem to always have a day or two of dressing too warm for the weather or not wearing warm enough clothes. Can you relate? As a meteorologist, I know more than anyone that it’s important to choose your outfits based on the weather so you can stay comfortable no matter what the day brings!
Below, I rounded up what to wear in 60-degree weather featuring 12 outfit ideas from my archives to inspire you. In Idaho, high temperatures around 60 degrees Fahrenheit is common in the spring and fall, so all of the outfits I rounded up are from those transitional seasons. Take your favorite looks and tweak them to work for you!

What to Wear in 60-degree Weather
When it comes to dressing for mild temperatures, the world is your oyster. Truly! 60 degrees is a common temperature here in Boise in the spring and fall, which are (in my opinion) the most fun seasons to dress for because you can wear so many different types of outfits. It’s the perfect temperature for layers, playing around with textures, and trying new color combinations.
The 12 outfits I rounded up below work well for temperatures between 55 and 65°F. You might dress a little warmer for those 55°F temperatures than you would 65° (for example, wear a slightly thicker outer layer, long pants instead of a skirt or dress, and/or boots instead of flats).
The other thing to consider during the transitional seasons is precipitation. Don’t wear anything in the rain that can’t get wet, like untreated suede! (I love Blondo for waterproof suede boots.) If you’re more of a flare or wide leg jean gal instead of skinny or straight leg jeans, I recommend not wearing jeans that drag on the ground if it’s wet outside. (Remember when the bottoms of our jeans used to get SOAKED when we were kids?!)
Is 60-Degree Weather Cold?
You’ll probably get different answers to this question from different people! If you prefer the cold, 60-degree weather probably doesn’t feel that cold to you. It might feel kind of warm! If you prefer warmth, 60-degrees probably feels cold. For most people, 60 degrees feels slightly cool because most people prefer room temperatures in the 70s. 60 degrees is considered mild.
The feeling of 60 degrees depends on which season you’re in, especially if you live somewhere like Idaho. If it’s fall and you’re coming off of months of heat, the first 60-degree weather after summer feels COLD! In contrast, the first days of 60-degree weather in the spring after months of cold feels downright tropical.
Some places in the country and world might only hit 60 degrees in the summer, and some places might never go below 60 degrees at any time of year. The outfits I rounded up can work for any of these scenarios, but definitely tweak them if you find you prefer to be more covered up or less!
60-Degree Weather Outfits
Layered Sweater + Ponte Pants
The best part of 60-degree weather is not needing to wear a coat if you don’t want to! It’s the perfect temperature to layer a collared shirt under a cozy sweater (my collared shirt is sleeveless so I don’t have to deal with bunchy sleeves). The ponte pants and flats make this perfect for the office.
Long-sleeved Top + Wide Leg Jeans
If you’re 60-degree weather is closer to mid-60s, pair your wide leg jeans with a long-sleeved (cropped) top and finish the look with heeled sandals! You might prefer closed-toe shoes, in which case I’d recommend a loafer or heeled boot. I love adding my belt bag to coordinate with the shoes.
Leather Jacket + Lugsole Boots
This is one of my very favorite outfits, and it’s a perfect outfit to wear when its around 60 degrees outside! Jazz up a basic long-sleeved tee and kick crop jeans outfit by finishing it with burgundy lace-up lugsole boots (the slim shaft works great under the jeans) and a faux leather moto jacket.
Lightweight Jacket with Stripes
60° is the perfect temperature to break out a light jacket, especially in the spring after a winter full of puffer coats! I featured a faux leather jacket in the outfit above this one, and now I’m wearing a utility jacket. Pair yours with a striped tee, blue jeans, and fun metallic ballet flats.
Creamy Sweater + Mini Skirt with Boots
Once the temperature reaches 60 degrees, it’s the perfect time to pair a cozy sweater with a suede mini skirt! Keep the outfit on theme for fall by adding chocolate brown tall boots. This is one of my very favorite fall outfits from years ago! It helps that the backdrop worked in my favor. 😏
Cotton Sweater + Sneakers
This is a simple, everyday outfit you can wear on the weekend (or to work, in my case). Toss on your comfiest cotton sweater, add a pair of jeans (I’m wearing kick crop jeans here, formerly known as the demi-boot jeans from Madewell), and finish with sneakers (to keep toes warm) and a baseball cap.
Short Trench Coat in the Rain
If it’s around 60 degrees and rainy, keep it cozy with a sweater and jeans, add rain boots, and top it all off with a trench coat! Mine is short, which I like since I’m also short (a.k.a. petite) and I haven’t found a long trench coat that doesn’t feel overwhelming. Short trench coats are back in!
Suede Jacket + Black Jeans
A suede jacket is the perfect extra layer for warmth in 60-degree weather! (Just make sure there’s no threat of precipitation, unless you have it treated for weather.) They pair perfectly with black jeans. Lighten your look by wearing white stripes and white sneakers (or another closed-toe shoe).
Cashmere Cardigan + Suede Boots
I love playing around with textures when the weather cools down! Tuck a striped tee into a high-waisted pair of jeans (I think a straight leg would look better in this outfit than skinny jeans like I wore) and complete the look with a camel cashmere cardigan and brown suede boots.
Colorful Sweater + Midi Skirt
I don’t wear a skirt or dress often when it’s cooler than 70 degrees, but midi skirts work well for 60 degrees! The longer length means it won’t blow up too high in gusts of wind. Pair it with a cropped sweater and ballet flats or low heels for the office! Or, try a midi sweater dress if that’s more you.
Lightweight Sweater + Wide Leg Pants
Are you sensing a theme with the sweaters?! 60 degrees is truly the perfect temperature to pull out your sweaters and NOT also need a coat, which is why it’s one of my favorites! I't’s so nice to not have to deal with another layer. A cropped sweater like this pairs perfectly with wide leg pants.
Classic Layers + Rich Colors
If it’s on the cooler end of 60 degrees, layer a utility or other lightweight jacket over a flannel shirt and classic pair of blue jeans. Then, have fun with some color! I’m wearing deep red ankle boots and carrying my go-to cognac brown Madewell medium Transport tote (shop the zip-top version).
