How to Style Grey Jeans

If you wear a lot of casual outfits and you’re tired of the same ol’ jeans in various shades of blue, why not give a pair of grey jeans a try? (Side note: Do you spell it “grey” or “gray”? I’m team grey personally, even though “gray” is what most Americans use. Those words sound different in my head! Ha.)

I love wearing a pair of grey jeans in casual outfits, and their moody color makes them a favorite of mine in the fall and winter. The shade is versatile enough to go with any other colors (besides tans or browns, in my opinion) and isn’t harsh like black jeans are. Black jeans definitely have their time and place, but it’s fun to mix it up with a lighter shade!

Below, I rounded up 18 grey jeans outfit ideas for all seasons and shared a few styling tips to help you wear your own grey jeans all year round! Plus, there’s a shopping widget in case you’re in the market for a new pair of grey jeans or two.

18 Grey Jeans Outfits

Grey is made by mixing black and white, so it’s a neutral just like black and white. In my opinion, grey goes with any other color on the color wheel EXCEPT I have strong feelings about pairing grey with brown, tan, or beige. I just don’t think they look all that great together most of the time because the undertones are different (there is a striped sweater I adored from many, many years ago that featured white, grey, and tan stripes… somehow that worked, but most of the time it’s a no for me).

You can find grey jeans in a variety of different styles and shades of grey. I rounded up a bunch of options in the widget below! Whether you opt for a lighter shade or a darker, near-black shade of grey, you can have fun wearing them with lots of different tops, jackets or coats, shoes, and bags in your closet. If you’re new to grey jeans, spend an hour or so making different outfit combinations and snapping pictures of your favorites so you can recreate them!

Grey Jeans Outfit with Spring Florals

Grey jeans might feel more appropriate for fall and winter, but don’t shy away from wearing them in the spring, too! Pairing grey jeans with light spring florals is sort of a juxtaposition—an unexpected combination that balances out. Glam it up with statement earrings and fun metallic flats.

Grey Jeans Outfit with More Grey (and Blue)

If there’s one thing I love to wear with grey jeans, it’s more grey. Ha! It’s fun to see how many different shades of grey you can wear in one outfit. The lighter greys on top and bottom bookend the outfit. I added a blue cardigan that fits the color story; this is the perfect cozy, casual work outfit.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Pink Stripes

I’m sure you’ll realize by the end of this post how frequently I wear my grey jeans to work! Brighten them up for spring and summer by pairing your grey jeans with a tee that features light stripes. The grey softens the look; black jeans would look much harsher against the white tee.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Blazer and Sneakers

A sweater blazer and grey jeans are a match made in casual workwear heaven! I LOVE this earthy green sweater blazer with a pair of charcoal grey jeans. (This combination is featured in another outfit!) I lightened it up by layering a white tank under the blazer and finishing with white sneakers.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Black

The jeans in this outfit are actually washed black, which is basically the color if you took a pair of stark black jeans and wore them so much that they started to fade. They look like grey for all intents and purposes! When in doubt, pair your grey (or washed black) jeans with all black.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Sweater Blazer

The green sweater blazer and grey jeans combination strikes again! I wore this outfit for a work trip that involved lots of time spent in the car. A pair of truly comfortable, stretchy jeans (and a soft sweater blazer) are key for a work travel outfit when you’re spending many hours sitting.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Cropped Shirt

In the transitional period between summer and fall, throw on a cropped button-down shirt with your grey jeans! It makes the perfect casual (and comfortable) work outfit. I love a cropped shirt like this because then I don’t have to mess with tucking it into the jeans and making it look right.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Graphic Tee

Go for a grunge look by pairing your grey jeans with a fun graphic tee! I added even more “edge” (ha, this is about as edgy as I get) by finishing the look with a faux leather moto jacket, olive green baseball cap (sticking with the dark theme), and black sandals (because it was still nice out)!

Grey Jeans Outfit with Wubby Pullover

When the temperatures drop in the fall but it’s not cold enough for a proper coat, layer a wubby pullover over a sweater! Cuffing your grey jeans like this (if the underside is a lighter color) provides a fun contrast and visual distinction between your grey jeans and black boots.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Red Sweater

It’s so easy to throw on a pair of black jeans as soon as the weather turns and it rains. Especially in the fall, rain can feel so moody and dreary! Instead of reaching for black, grab a pair of grey jeans and wear a cozy brick red sweater (and possibly a rain jacket if you don’t have an umbrella).

Grey Jeans Outfit with Purple Fleece

I mentioned previously that grey jeans are a staple for me in the fall and winter! They’re such a great everyday, throw-on-and-run-errands jean. Here, I’m wearing slim demi-boot jeans (also known as kick crop jeans) with a cozy fleece before doing some holiday shopping in downtown Boise.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Bright Coat

I can get into a real outfit funk in the winter months. The dark, cold days seem to never end once we hit January! Wearing bright colors, like this bright spicy orange puffer coat, helps me get out of the funk. Try it yourself! This look would look totally different if I wore a black coat instead.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Winter Parka

Get ready for a lot of winter outfits featuring grey (or washed black) jeans and my black parka! They go together like peanut butter and jelly. (Though, I do still recommend wearing a bright coat to get out of a winter outfit funk.) A beanie adds to this comfy errand-running weekend outfit idea.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Faux Fur Coat

The washed black jeans make another appearance in this fun winter outfit. If it’s not too cold out, try a faux fur coat with your grey (or washed black) jeans. To keep this outfit from an all-black fate, I wore a burgundy sweater and topped it all off with a fun pink velvet baseball cap for extra texture.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Winter Neutrals

Try wearing your grey jeans with a cozy wintergreen sweater, which is basically a neutral if you ask me. (My sweater is half-tucked in front.) I’m wearing my grey jeans with waterproof Blondo ankle boots—favorites of mine in the fall and winter because they look like normal boots for work!

Grey Jeans Outfit with Lugsole Boots

Grey jeans and more neutrals make another appearance, but this time I made the outfit a little more exciting by finishing it with burgundy lugsole boots! It’s tempting to wear my utilitarian snow boots all winter long because they’re warm and waterproof, but it’s fun to mix it up when it’s dry.

Grey Jeans Outfit with Cozy Winter Essentials

Eventually, I get to the point of winter where all I want to wear are the coziest essentials: a soft cashmere sweater, a chunky knit scarf, grey jeans… and a parka! If I’m being honest, this is an everyday winter outfit for me, haha. Once it’s cold out, all I want to wear are cozy things!

Grey Jeans Outfit with Pink Flannel Shirt

Last but certainly not least, one of my favorite grey jeans outfits! I love the cozy light pink flannel shirt against the charcoal grey jeans. I cuffed them for additional contrast. Plus, I’m wearing my favorite shiny leather boots. I call these my “boss boots” and every woman should own a pair!
