Amour Vert Reviews: Silk Sleeveless Shirt, Modal-blend Tees, Merino Wool Sweater
Amour Vert Reviews
I’ve been a fan of Amour Vert for over four years now. I fell in love with their “effortlessly sustainable” mission that spans the entire production of their garments. Most of their garments are made here in the U.S. (they are based in California), and they use eco-friendly materials. For being ethical, their garments are reasonably priced, which is one of the main reasons I was drawn to them as a grad student making a meager salary.
Now, I own a variety of items from the brand: a silk sleeveless shirt, two modal blend tees, a cable knit sweater, a silk skirt, two midi skirts, a dress, and some accessories. I decided to write two big review posts; this one focuses on my tops, and the next one will be about the bottoms. There are two other tops that I have owned but that aren’t included here, and that’s because they didn’t quite work for me. I sold one on Poshmark, and the other is currently listed for sale.
In general, Amour Vert garments are made of extremely soft and substantial materials that feel like they will hold up over many years of regular wear. I do think most of their garments are made more for average height and taller women. I am borderline petite at 5’4”, so some items are just a tad longer than I would like. I typically take a size XS or small depending on the garment and fit I’m looking for.
This post was not written in collaboration with Amour Vert, but they’re definitely one of those dream brands I’d love to work with someday. I just wanted to share what I’ve purchased so far and how everything has held up! I really want Amour Vert to make it through the pandemic, so if you are in a good place financially and want to support a small, ethical business, consider shopping with them.
Riley silk sleeveless shirt
I decided a few years ago that I needed the tropical-print Riley silk shirt in my life, even though it is a little bit outside the box for me. It’s probably the most interesting print I have in my closet! As of now, I still want to hang onto it even though I haven’t been wearing it as much (and I’ve pretty much sworn off buying silk).
I typically save this shirt for the spring and summer months just because of the print, but it goes well with blazers and cardigans when it’s a bit cooler out (or if you’re in a chilly office).
This shirt fits me well in a size XS, and the silk fabric is smooth and feels high quality. I have gotten this shirt dry cleaned and it turns out good as new! I’ve been too scared to wash it in water at home because I don’t know if the print will bleed or not. I would assume no, but I haven’t taken the chance yet…
Like most light-colored silk, this shirt is slightly sheer, but I usually wear it with a nude-to-me bra and don’t worry about the rest.
According to Stylebook, I’ve worn this shirt 12 times (10 times in outfits that I blogged). It’s sitting at a cost per wear of $9.25 after grabbing it at $111 on sale.
Julita modal-blend striped side-tie tee
I love a good striped tee, especially in grey and white stripes, but add a fun side tie and I’m all over it! Truthfully, it took me a while to warm up to the built-in tie trend. That said, I much prefer the side ties to the front-tie trend that has taken over recently.
The Julita tee is made primarily of their signature beechwood modal fabric. It’s luxurious to the touch and feels wonderful on the skin. That’s why I love wearing this tee so much! It’s so soft. It’s tempting to buy all of their modal items; it really is that nice and totally worth the price.
This tee washes up well and feels just as soft today as it did when I first purchased it. The weight of the tee allows wrinkles to fall out easily, which makes it super nice to travel with! Hanging it helps to release the wrinkles.
I’ve worn this tee 21 times and have blogged it six times. I spent $56 on it, so it’s down to a cost per wear of $2.66.
I originally ordered this tee in two sizes, XS and small, and opted to keep the XS since it is not too fitted. It does tend to slide over to the side with the tie (the tie seems to weigh it down), so it needs adjusting every once in a while, but it’s still one of my most-worn Amour Vert garments.
Raelynn cotton modal blend crewneck tee
The Raelynn crewneck tee is another basic tee with a little bit of a twist thanks to the small pleats on the shoulders. For some reason, I have a hard time purchasing just a basic tee…my tees tend to have some sort of twist to them, haha.
I originally ordered this tee in a size small after going back and forth between the XS and small, but they sent me an XS on accident. It turns out that the XS fit me the way I wanted it to fit, so I held onto it. If I could change one thing, it would be the length of the sleeves. They are 3/4-length but hit at a place that feels a little awkward to me; I think I would like them shorter by an inch.
This tee features a lovely blend of organic cotton and their signature modal, so it feels nice on the skin and drapes really nicely; it’s fun to half-tuck into the front of jeans. And, of course, a true black tee goes with anything! I can wear it with anything in my closet.
Since I purchased it about a year ago, I’ve worn it five times (and blogged it three times). After spending $54.50 on it, it’s down to a cost per wear of $10.90. Since it is such a basic tee, I tend to look over it when picking out outfits, so my goal is to start planning more outfits with it. Gotta get that cost per wear down!
Kendra merino wool cable knit sweater
I received the Kendra cable knit sweater from my dad and step mom for Christmas a couple of years ago. It was one I had asked for specifically, so I was thrilled to find it under the tree!
This is the most beautifully knit sweater I have owned thus far. It’s a very substantial, heavy knit, and it keeps me toasty warm in the winter. I typically wear it over a Heattech tee from Uniqlo to keep it fresh between wears.
This sweater in a size XS is a touch longer in the torso than I prefer. It’s also slightly fuzzy/pilly after wearing it so many times. Luckily, it is pretty easy to remove the fuzz, and it’s honestly hard to tell how fuzzy it is in photos.
This may be gross to admit, but I have not fully washed this sweater yet. It has received spot cleaning, but it does need a good wash now, especially around the neck and hems. It’s a very heavy sweater when dry, so I’ve been putting off hand washing it because it’ll weigh 50 pounds when wet!
According to Stylebook, I’ve worn it 31 times and blogged it in 14 outfits. It’s one of my favorites to pull out every fall. At the sale price my parents paid, the cost per wear is down to $4.45.
